Starz's expanded author Diana Galabaldon's fantastical world with Outlander: Blood of My Blood, a prequel series of the hit fantasy-romance series Outlander. The spin-off show revealed that unbeknownst to their daughter, Claire's (Caitriona Balfe) parents were also fellow time-travelers, who were accidentally transported to the 17th century.

The latest episode of Outlander: Blood of My Blood saw Julia (Hermione Corfield) make a bold choice, where she offered herself to Lord Lovat (Jamie's grandfather), to save her unborn second child and Claire's sibling. While her decision is tough, it was necessary to protect their child, as she explains in her letter to Henry.

Julia's will to survive is highly reminiscent of Claire's from Outlander, where she also made difficult choices to either protect herself or save Jamie (Sam Heughan). In Season 2, Claire even slept with King Louis XV to rescue Jamie from prison. Discussing her character's similarities with her daughter, Corfield said in an interview with Collider:

“They're both extremely intelligent, and there's a resourcefulness, and a sort of fighting, survivor spirit, which was really fun to play.''

More on the intertwined mother-daughter stories in Outlander: Blood of My Blood in our story.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood- How Julia's story mimics her daughter's time-traveling tale from the parent series

Julia's story in Outlander: Blood of My Blood kick-starts like her daughter Claire, as she similarly time-travels through the magical Craigh Na Dun stones while on a trip with her husband in Scotland. However, while this time-traveling trip brought Claire to Castle Leoch, where she met Jamie, Julia is sold to the predatory Simon Fraser in Castle Leathers.

While Frank was left alone in the 20th century, frantically searching for an explanation about the sudden disappearance of his wife in Outlander, Julia's husband Henry immediately followed her suit in the 17th century, but the couple were destined to be apart as Julia was already abducted and sold before Henry could find her.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood made Julia's fate even more tragic than her daughter's, as she still believes that her husband is safe at their home in the 20th century with Claire, when in reality, he has taken up a job as the Clan Grant's bladier.

Still, the prequel show manages to set many parallels with the parent series. Like her daughter, Julia is also a lonely Englishwoman, a 'Saasenach' in the Scottish Highlands in the 17th century, when she accidentally time-travels. While Claire was also in a Castle full of Highlander strangers, none were as brutal and predatory as Lord Lovat. Besides, Claire had protection from Jamie, but Julia is currently tragically separated from Henry, with no reunion in sight.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood's Hermione Corfield teases an exciting season finale for Julia and Henry

While Jamie's parents' happy fate is already known, thanks to Jamie Fraser in Outlander, it's just a matter of how things will unfold for them. However, Outlander: Blood of My Blood has flipped the narrative for Claire's parents, with a hanging question of their reunion.

Like Outlander, which also featured many teary-eyed reunions between Claire and Jamie, the prequel series seems determined to keep Julia and Henry apart for now. One of the most anticipated mysteries in the prequel series is the fate of Claire's parents in the 17th century, and whether they will be able to reunite with each other.

Teasing Julia and Henry's fate in the Season 1 finale, Corfield teased with Collider:

“At the end of Season 1, you will think something's about to happen to Henry and Julia, and then you get to the beginning of Season 2, and that is all turned on its head. And so I'm excited for that reaction. But that's a long way off.”

Outlander: Blood of My Blood releases new episodes on Starz every Friday.
