If James Gunn promised a “super-sized” finale, he wasn’t kidding. Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 8 (titled “Full Nelson”) is the kind of episode that drops your jaw, breaks your heart, and then blasts a guitar riff through your chest!

The finale opens with Chris Smith (John Cena) facing the consequences of his season as he surrenders to authorities after the Quantum Unfolding Chamber fiasco. ARGUS is in shambles, Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) spirals into full-on villainy, and Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) and Peacemaker’s simmering chemistry finally comes to a rather tender payoff.

Gone are the over-the-top shootouts; instead, Gunn leans into vulnerability and redemption. We see the man who once believed peace justified any means start thinking he’s worthy of love. But don’t be fooled: the tenderness comes wrapped in a soundtrack that could make even Mötley Crüe weep with pride.

Peacemaker Season 2 finale recap

The episode trades in spectacle for clarity, and it works.

After escaping the Nazi multiverse in Episode 7, Peacemaker is behind bars, while Rick Flag Sr. becomes Lex Luthor as he resurrects the Salvation prison project. Frank Grillo’s Flag, once a morally gray soldier, is now a comic-book caricature. He laughs alongside Lex’s crew as if he never swore off tyranny in Superman --- meanwhile, the lead crew fractures and reforms.

Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) decides to part ways with her wife Keeya in a gut-wrenching farewell that shows Brooks at her best. The moment the 11th Street Kids tell Peacemaker he’s loved? Cue the tears, please.

Then there’s Harcourt and Peacemaker’s closure. Their romantic boat scene ends in a kiss that feels like coming full circle. Harcourt then admitted that the kiss meant "everything," and this might just have been the series’ apex!

By the time "Reckoning" kicks in, Gunn has already pointed out that Peacemaker is a love letter to rock, redemption, and humanity. The finale lays the groundwork for the DCU’s next phase. It does a range of things from teasing Checkmate, Lex Luthor’s schemes, and a possible Superman: Man of Tomorrow crossover. With Chris Smith now the first prisoner in Salvation, the Peacemaker saga isn’t done. It’s just getting louder, can you hear it?
