View this post on Instagram Instagram PostThe second season differentiates itself from the first one by not opening with Percy. Instead, the first few minutes of the season 2 premiere focus exclusively on Grover and also reveal the demigods who are a part of the Titans' army, the army Luke raised for Kronos. The opening scene also sets up Grover's absence in the rest of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2.It is after the opening scene that the episode cuts to Percy's home, along with Virginia Kull's Sally Jackson, Percy's mother. We learn that Sally has "adopted" a cyclops named Tyson off the streets. This is unlike the book, where Tyson is just one of Percy's homeless classmates. Moreover, another change from the book is Percy being aware of Tyson being a cyclops, while he wasn't in the source material. The change of him living with Percy sets up this important relationship that's supposed to grow over the course of the second season. Tyson and Percy's relationship is not the only change from the source material, though. They are attacked by Laestrygonians at the camp border. Percy and Annabeth enter the camp, but Tyson is repelled by the magic of Thalia's Tree, which repels the monsters. In the book, Luke poisoned the tree before the first chapter, and Activities Director Chiron is held responsible, resulting in his firing. However, in the season 2 premiere, Luke poisons the tree after Chron is already fired.Annabeth permits Tyson to enter, and is almost killed by the campers under the new temporary Activities Director Tantalus's orders. However, that's when Poseidon claims Tyson, meaning he has been Percy's half-brother. Percy is initially embarrassed by this revelation, but comes around to it as they create their chariot for the chariot race.In the closing minutes of the season 2 premiere, Percy learns through Grover's empathy link that the Satyr is the Cyclops Polyphemus's hostage. Percy also learns that the Golden Fleece can heal anything, and this gives him the idea that the mythical object can heal Thalia's Tree, too.Meanwhile, Annabeth manages to contact the former Activities Director, Chiron, and informs him about the poisoning of the tree and Percy's idea for a quest to retrieve the fleece. Chiron instructs Annabeth that Percy can not go on this quest and gives the great prophecy as the reason for this instruction. This sets up Annabeth and Percy's conflict in episode 2.At the start of the second Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 episode, Percy and Annabeth notice Stymphalian Birds trying to invade the camp, restricted by the waning magical protection. But they do attack the campers as the race commences, causing both Percy and Annabeth to stop. They drive the birds away by playing loud music, but Clarisse La Rue is declared the winner, meaning she can ask for a favor.Tantalus gives Clarisse the quest to retrieve the fleece, and she is allowed to choose two campers with her. Annabeth first offers her help, and Clarisse accepts. Percy also offers his help to complete the quest, as it is in the sea, and she almost accepts it. But Annabeth stops Clarisse, and the latter chooses Chris Rodriguez instead.A distraught Percy chooses to leave the camp in favor of a personal quest to rescue Grover from Polyphemus's cave. Hermes appears in front of Percy and gives the latter a boat and some other supplies, including some tablets which will play a role in the fifth episode. Annabeth tries to talk Percy out of this quest, but Tantalus interrupts them with the intention to kill Percy. But Tyson soon comes in and tackles the new Activities Director, saving Percy's life. He, Percy, and Annabeth board the boat and sail towards the mysterious cruise ship. As that happens, Annabeth informs Tyson and Percy that they can't return to the camp ever, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Episode 2 comes to a close.Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, like the previous season, makes some changes: View this post on Instagram Instagram PostApart from the poisoning of Thalia's Tree, the episode also changes the setting of the Laestrygonian attack from Percy's school gym to the boundaries of Camp Half-Blood. Also, Annabeth appeared in the book only after the Laestrygonian attack. Also, the reason behind Chiron's firing in the book is his failure to prevent Thalia's Tree's poisoning. However, Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 changes it to Zeus discovering that Chiron is also Kronos's son. While the Centaur is Kronos's son in the books, the reason behind Chiron's firing doesn't make sense in the series for now. However, this may change over the next six episodes.Watch the first two Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 episodes on Disney+ before episode three streams next Wednesday.
