Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Episode 4, "Clarisse Blows Up Everything", delivered on the much hyped fight between Charybdis and Scylla. It should also be noted that this episode is set in The Sea of Monsters, the destination both Clarisse and her crew, and Percy, Tyson, and Annabeth are looking for.

The fourth episode is likely to adapt not one but two chapters from the second book, The Sea of Monsters. It is specifically adapting Chapter 10, "We Hitch a Ride with Dead Confederates", and Chapter 11, "Clarisse blows up everything". The synopsis for Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Episode 4 reads:

"Quests collide as our crew voyages into the perilous Sea of Monsters."

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Episode 4 recap:

Here are some of the major events in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Episode 4:

  • Thalia

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Episode 4 opens with Annabeth in a secret location that she (as a kid), Luke, and Thalia used. Annabeth is about to open a wooden box when she finds a mysterious bracelet. The flashbacks are intercut in between the present, but they reveal what actually happened with Thalia. The three also come across Grover, who tries to convince them to join Camp Half-Blood.

They refuse, but Grover takes them to a hideout, and Annabeth realizes that she has lost the bracelet we saw in the beginning. That night, she walks alone back to the hideout, but is captured by three cyclops. Thalia saves Annabeth and tells Grover to take her to the camp for safety. A few days later, as Thalia, Annabeth, Grover, and Luke come closer to the camp, they are hunted by furies.

Thalia orders the others to go ahead, while staying back to battle the furries. While we don't see Thalia die, book readers would know that she perished in the battle, but Zeus, seeing her plight, turned her into the magical tree that protects the camp's borders.

  • Clarisse attacks Percy and his friends

Clarisse manages to track Tyson, Percy, and Annabeth to the hideout and attacks them. The three are surrounded by Clarisse's crew, and she demands the coordinates for the Sea of Monsters from Percy. Annabeth suggests Clarisse hire Percy, her, and Tyson as a crew while Percy suggests trial by combat.

Clarisse points out that three members of her crew can already do what Percy, Tyson, and Annabeth could do. Therefore, she begins battling Percy, and that's where Annabeth "kills" the three members of the crew that the daughter of Ares pointed at. Thus, they collaborate with Clarisse to sail towards the Sea of Monsters.

  • Charybdis and Scylla

One of the most exciting chapters in The Sea of Monsters was the heroes' trying to overcome the obstacles caused by the mythical sea creatures, Scylla and Charybdis. This Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 episode brings to life this pivotal moment, and even Walker Scobell teased it earlier this year at the SCAD TVFest:

“It’s its own movie to be honest. I remember that was the first table read we did where we hadn’t read it beforehand. They wanted us to all read it there and experience it for the first time.”

While Percy and Annabeth suggest they take on Scylla, which would require them to sacrifice six members of their crew to the creatures, Clarisse wants to take on Charybdis. They start with Scylla and even lose two members to the creature, but Clarisse turns the submarine towards Charybdis, and this causes several accidents.

Percy tries to turn the tide towards Scylla, and Annabeth decides to use Hermes's thermas for wind. However, navigating the ship is hard due to rushing water, and Annabeth accidentally drops the thermas on the ship. The boiler room explodes with Tyson inside it, and the ship floats upwards, and the episode cuts to black.
