Pluribus continues Carol's journey in this series to understand and navigate a post-apocalyptic world. However, unlike post-apocalyptic dramas like The Last of Us and The Walking Dead, the Apple TV Vince Gilligan sci-fi drama is set in a world where most of the world's population is taken over by a virus that results in people becoming a part of the hive mind.

The third episode, "Grenade", further continues to intrigue viewers about the hive mind virus. That's because they seem kind and nice, despite some strange behaviour. What makes Pluribus special is that it paints Carol as the mean-spirited one to the nicer hive-minded Zosia. In the third act of the episode, she pulls the pin on a grenade, expecting it to be a fake, but it turns out it wasn't.

Zosia saves Carol's life by throwing the live grenade outside, but she is injured in the explosion. Carol takes her to the hospital, where Zosia's condition is stabilized, but Carol learns something from an interaction with another hive-minded individual.

After Zosia is stabilized in the hospital, a DHL representative who works there assures Carol that her hive companion is out of danger. In this conversation, Carol further learns that the hive-minded people would do anything to make Carol feel happy. It is worth noting that they are still trying to determine why she and a handful of others are immune to the virus.

They want to attract Carol to the hive-minded way of life, which is why they are accommodating of Carol's needs. In the closing minutes of this Pluribus episode, Carol learns that she can demand a nuke (either sarcastically or sincerely) from the hive people, and she'll get them.

"The World just wants to help—which infuriates Carol. A heart-to-heart conversation ends with a bang."

As of now, it is unclear where Pluribus is heading:

Three episodes and two weeks in, it is unclear what this new Apple TV is about or the direction it is heading, which is only adding to the curiosity of viewers. Like Vince Gilligan's other iconic shows, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. The Apple TV sci-fi series, for now, has painted the hive-people as the idyllic, kind, and cooperative community.

It is Carol who is stuck to her old ways of individualism, who has killed several hive-minded people with her emotional breakdowns. But there are still questions that we need to know about the hive-minded people. On the surface, it looks like the consciousness of the hive-minded is linked 24/7. However, it is unclear how this works, as of now.

While Carol does express the desire to cure the people infected with the hive virus in the second episode, several fan theories state that the virus may not survive without a host. Many believe that the people who have turned can't be brought back, which is why the ones who couldn't accommodate the virus, like Carol's romantic partner, Helen, died in the premiere episode.

"Already picked up for a second season, “Pluribus” is a genre-bending original in which the most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness. In addition to Seehorn, the series stars Karolina Wydra and Carlos Manuel Vesga, and guest stars Miriam Shor and Samba Schutte."

Three episodes of the series are currently streaming on Apple TV, with the fourth one probably releasing on the OTT platform on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
