Episode 3 of Queen Mantis revealed several new information about Yi-shin’s murderous escapade, which even suggests another victim of the Mantis- the female serial killer.
While the copycat killer continues to kill more people, following Yi-shin’s methods, Soo-yeol’s wife, Jung-yeon, begins suspecting that his mother is alive. Furthermore, Soo-yeol and the team continue their search for the copycat killer and discover another victim who was killed months ago.
With flashbacks from 23 years earlier, the episode also revealed many moments from the Mantis’s life and her victims.

Queen Mantis Episode 3 recap: Copycat killer kills his third victim
Soo-yeol successfully saves Tae-seok, whom he had found in the washing machine in the previous episode of Queen Mantis. This also helps the team in determining that Gu-wan might not be their copycat killer after all.
Their conclusion is proven right when the real killer finds his next victim. A professor with no criminal background becomes the third victim of the killer. He is believed to have been injected with something and drowned in water, which causes his death, just like Yi-shin’s third victim.
They also discover several mirrors lined up near the victim, suggesting that the killer might be taunting the detectives. Just like the previous two victims, the detectives fail to find his phone until it pings in a remote village.
Queen Mantis Episode 3 recap: Jung-yeon tries to find out about Soo-yeol’s mother while Soo-yeol confronts Yi-shin
Soo-yeol had told Jung-yeon that his parents died in an accident. However, in Episode 3 of Queen Mantis, she begins suspecting Soo-yeol of hiding something from her. She tries to look up on the internet to find out if his mother was killed in the accident, but finds nothing.
She even asks him if he finds her untrustworthy, that he never discusses anything with her, but Soo-yeol sways the conversation from the topic. She then decides to visit his village with Seo Ara to find out more about Soo-yeol’s mother.
Elsewhere, Jung-ho tells Soo-yeol that Yi-shin did send a letter to Gu-wan encouraging him, which angers the former. Coupled with the knowledge of another victim that the police might not know about, Soo-yeol visits his mother and confronts her.
He tells her that she is just using Gu-wan and him and is nothing more than a killer who loves the smell of blood. At the beginning of the episode, Soo-yeol meets her and thanks her for her help in Gu-wan’s case, but as he learns more about her secrets, his anger toward his mother begins to rise again.
Queen Mantis Episode 3 recap: Soo-yeol learns that his father was the first victim of Yi-shin
In Episode 3 of Queen Mantis, the investigating team reaches the remote location where the third victim’s phone was last located. They search the premises but find nothing, while Seong-gyu suggests that this might be just a trap created by the copycat killer.
However, a red ball found in a barrel of water takes the team to the well of the house, where they find another victim with a message from the killer that congratulated them for finding the body. Through Autopsy, they learn about the victim, who used to work for an IT company that was given the task to digitize criminals’ data.
The victim had been missing for three months, and the team deduces that by torturing him, the copycat killer might have learned about Yi-shin’s crimes and her MO. Due to finding similarity between the house where they found the first victim of the copycat killer, Soo-yeol visits his own house, where he grew up, and finds his father’s remains in the well.
He later went to confront his mother about why she would kill her husband, and did not confess it to the police. She reminds him that his father was a drunkard who did not treat her well, and when he tried to save his mother, his father beat him. To save Soo-yeol from her husband, Yi-shin stabbed her husband.
The police did not ask about him, which is why she did not confess to killing Soo-yeol’s father. Soo-yeol is horrified and angry after listening to her confession and chokes her against the wall while she encourages him to kill her.
However, Soo-yeol lets her go at the end.
