A few days ago, reports came out that Kevin Bacon-starrer action horror series The Bondsman had been canceled by Prime Video after one season. The move surprised the audience, as the show had premiered just last month and received exceptional reviews from viewers and critics.

Bacon starred in the series as Hub Halloran, a bounty hunter who is brought back from the dead by the Devil to hunt down demons who had escaped from hell. While Prime Video did not reveal the official reason behind The Bondsman’s cancellation, Bacon has now broken his silence on the matter.

The actor addressed the cancellation in a social media post and revealed that he is as disappointed by Prime Video’s decision as the audience. He said in a video posted on Instagram:

“Hey, folks. Really bummed out that The Bondsman has not come back for a second season. You know, I just really loved walking in Hub Halloran's shoes and making that show with so many great, talented people [and] making that music.”

Kevin Bacon added that he does not have an explanation for why Prime Video canceled the series so soon, hinting that even he does not know the reason behind the decision:

“I wish I had an explanation for you, but I honestly don't.”

The actor further thanked the audience for watching the show and loving it:

“For those of you who checked it out and who wrote so many sweet comments, and there were a lot of you, I just wanna say, thanks, it means a lot to me. I guess that’s the way it goes. Because that’s the way it goes.”

The Bondsman premiered on Prime Video on April 3, 2025, with eight episodes. The show earned favorable reviews for its perfect blend of action, horror, and music. It holds an 83% critics' rating and a 77% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Within a week of its release, the show had entered the top 10 charts on Prime Video, with around 9.38 million hours watched around the world.

Just over a month later, on May 16, the streaming platform announced that The Bondsman would not return for a season 2, leaving fans shocked and disappointed. Audiences are astonished at why the series was canceled so soon despite good ratings and viewership, and Kevin Bacon seems to be having similar thoughts.

The series told the story of bounty hunter Hub Halloran, who got a second chance at life when he was appointed to deal with demons and send them back to hell. In his endeavor, he reconnected with his family, who often supported him, but at other times, hindered his cause.

Created by Grainger David, the series also starred Beth Grant as Kitty Halloran, Jennifer Nettles as Maryanne Dice, Jolene Purdy as Midge Kusatsu, Damon Herriman as Lucky Callahan, Maxwell Jenkins as Cade Halloran, Mike Kaye as Tommy "Tater" Dean, and Kathrine Barnes as Cheryl Dawson.
