Resident Playbook, the spin-off of Hospital Playlist, consisted of 12 episodes, and the final episode aired on May 18, 2025. The finale gave answers to some of the most sought-after questions that were raised throughout the show and also provided satisfactory arcs to some characters’ stories.

The final episode also seemed to be quite eventful since the new year was about to arrive, and pregnant women wanted to give birth post midnight. This made it quite a busy night for the doctors, which added to the entire storyline of Resident Playbook finale.

Let us now explore in detail what happens at the end of Resident Playbook.

The following article contains spoilers.

Resident Playbook finale reveals the relationship between Do-Won and Yi-Youn

The final episode of Resident Playbook finally answers the question of whether Do-Won and Yi-Young are dating. As the gang asks Yi-Young to tell them if she is with Do-Won, she tells them that though they are a couple, she does not want anyone in the hospital to know.

However, people at the hospital were already aware of something going on between the two, and Yi-Young’s confirmation only verifies everyone’s speculations.

Another revelation the finale makes is that Yi-Young’s brother-in-law and sister learn that their attempts at the IVF have failed, and thus they decide that they will no longer try for a baby. However, they do not know that Yi-Young and Do-Won are a couple now, which means that they would be double-in-laws.

Toward the end of Resident Playbook, Do-Won, in a gesture of togetherness, gives Yi-Young a ring. He does so to assure her he likes her and they will remain together.

It’s a sweet gesture, and Yi-Young eventually feels happy and content. And as she walks into Jongno Yulje Medical Center’s second-year room, it seems that she has changed as a person and is joyful about what she does, marking a full circle moment for her.

Chu Min-Ha and Nam-Kyung have their own moments in the Resident Playbook finale

Given how Dr. Seo always emphasized that to be a professor, one should be more invested in the process than in the end results, it made sense that eventually Chu Min-Ha was revealed to be a professor instead of Do-Won or Myeong. Her character has been portrayed as a nice person, and as per Dr. Seo, Min-Ha is the best choice for the position.

Nam-Kyung, on the other hand, has her own full-circle moment at the hospital in the final episode of Resident Playbook. In the finale, Nam-Kyung meets Ms. Yeom, her first patient, again.

She is shown to be going through a number of troubles, and due to overcrowding at the hospital, Ms. Yeom eventually passes away on New Year's. While Nam-Kyung remained with her till her last moments, her inability to save her naturally affects her as she has a huge breakdown while filling up Ms. Yeom’s death certificate.

However, on the same day, she delivers a baby with the help of Yang Seok-Hyeong, which makes Dr. Seo proud. Witnessing both life and death in a single day gives Nam-Kyung a kind of a full-circle experience as she realizes the meaning of being a doctor better.

Resident Playbook can be streamed on Netflix.
