Sheriff Country Season 1 episode 4 recap: Skye's secret comes out amid her fallout

Episode 4 of Sheriff Country begins with Skye continuing her habit of hiding the full truth until it’s too late. Her mother, Sheriff Mickey, always wanted to believe in her, which also resulted in Mickey being blinded by her daughter's half-truths.

Things take a serious turn when Skye finally admits that she bought the knife used in her boyfriend Brandon’s murder. And she reveals this only when the police are about to search their house.

The District Attorney takes this as an advantage and steps in to follow the case. He even has Skye arrested and removes Mickey's department from the investigation. This results in tension and a forced leave for Mickey, which ultimately pushes her to uncover the truth behind Brandon's death.

Mickey's private investigation begins in Sheriff Country Season 1 Episode 4

As the Sheriff Country episode continues, Mickey starts investigating Brandon’s death herself. She visits Brandon’s mother, who tells her that Brandon acted strangely and distanced himself from others before his death.

This makes Mickey even more suspicious of Bradon's connections, and then she finds a hidden phone inside his car. The device leads her to Ricky, Skye’s cousin and Travis’s nephew. When Ricky’s mother learns that Skye connected him to Brandon, she gets furious and sends Ricky back to rehab.

Mickey Fox then realizes that Ricky might have been one of Brandon's clients in the drug dealings in Sheriff Country Season 1. Meanwhile, Mickey’s ex-husband Travis stops by to help Skye prepare for court.

Brandon's killer is revealed in Sheriff Country Season 1 episode 4

Later in episode 4 of Sheriff Country, Mickey turns to her undercover DEA boyfriend, who secretly helps her trace the number linked to Brandon’s dealings. Since Mickey wasn't allowed to handle Skye's case, she took the matter into her own hands and sneaked into the evidence locker.

Through that locker, Mickey traces the drugs to Adrian Smith, a dangerous dealer. When she confronts him, it turns into a violent fight. Dawson (real name Alec) breaks cover to save her by shooting Smith, who turns out to be the real murderer.

With Smith dead and the weapon found, the case finally starts to make sense. The episode ends with Mickey’s father trying (and failing) to take the blame to protect Skye. And Skye gave Brandon’s lyric book to his mother as a kind gesture.
