MGM+ has recently brought in some big news with the renewal of its hit supernatural horror show The Institute post Season 1, and it has been the talk of the town ever since. According to Digital Spy, MGM+'s head Michael Wright has recently opened up about the Stephen King adaptation moving forward with a second season, saying that the team is really content about the "chilling journey" further unfolding.
To quote his exact words:
"We're so happy to be able to continue and expand this chilling journey and dive even deeper into the secrets of The Institute in season two."
The Institute premiered earlier this year in July and currently holds commendable RT scores in terms of both critic and audience ratings. Here's an official synopsis of The Institute, per IMDb:
"A teen genius wakes up in a strange place full of children who got there the same way he did, and who all, like him, possess unusual abilities."
MGM+ head is really confident about The Institute moving forward with a second season amidst promising audience response
As per Digital Spy, MGM+ head Michael Wright has recently mentioned in a statement that the audience is thrilled with The Institute's creative delivery. Wright has also spoken highly of an accurate Stephen King adaptation, and he "cannot wait' for the second season to materialize, especially after the renewal.
To quote his exact words:
"The Institute has thrilled audiences with its distinctive storytelling and exceptional performances that expertly bring the singular voice of Stephen King to the screen."
The Benjamin Cavell show features Westworld star Ben Barnes in the lead role alongside Joe Freeman, who has played the part of a specially abled kid named Luke Ellis. The teenager is surrounded by similar kids in a mysterious organization that performs harsh scientific experiments on them.
Actor Ben Barnes, per Radio Times, has recently shared his thoughts about The Institute being compared to Netflix's Stranger Things, especially owing to the creative treatment of the story. According to him, The Institute has an "almost detective-like" plotline despite all the subtle similarities to the Duffer Brothers' masterpiece.
Barnes has also added that The Institute is not at all a 'derivative' of Stranger Things and has its own unique 'quiet' way of storytelling. The Institute Season 1 finale premiered yesterday on MGM+, and the ending has shifted gears majorly from the Stephen King OG novel.
As we have already seen, Luke makes it out in one piece along with a few of his buddies with plans to bring to light the Man on the Phone's evil intentions. On the other hand, Avery makes a big sacrifice in the closing moments of The Institute Season 1 by staying back in the infamous 'Institute.' They have intentions to blow the place up from the inside, which will probably be the main plot for the second season.
