It looks like the Netflix adaptation of The Boy In The Iron Box is moving forward on the streaming giant. On Friday, September 19, 2025, The Hollywood Reporter published a report revealing the cast of the movie, which includes Jaeden Martell, Rupert Friend, and Kevin Durand. Rumors are circulating that the Netflix feature will begin production next month. But that hasn't been confirmed yet.

The Netflix movie seems to be an adaptation of Chuck Hogan and Guillermo del Toro's novella, consisting of six short stories titled Falling Down, The Pit and the Box, The Hunted, Risen, Siege, and Encounter. The official synopsis for The Boy In The Iron Box, which was published last year by Amazon Original Stories, reads:

"Flying dark, a plane carrying a team of mercenaries crash-lands on a remote snowy summit. When they come across a mazelike stone fortress, it’s no refuge from the wolves and the freezing wind. It’s more like a trap. What they discover can stop the heart—or worse. As terror takes a new shape, the real battle for survival begins in this unrelenting serialized novel from Academy Award–winning filmmaker and writer Guillermo del Toro."

The Boy In The Iron Box cast revealed:

As mentioned earlier, only three members of the cast have been revealed. Kevin Durand is the titular character, and Rupert Friend is playing Liev, the leader of the mercenary group. Jaeden Martell's character is one of the mercenaries of the group. The movie doesn't have a release date yet, and we will have to wait for a while for that, as the cameras have not started rolling on it yet. Furthermore, it is unclear who will join the cast of Netflix's The Boy In The Iron Box after the three.

But there is a lot of excitement for the project as the entire The Boy In The Iron Box series was co-written by both Chuck Hogan and Guillermo del Toro, whose name is pulling in the crowds to the project.

Guillermo del Toro is having a busy year:

Guillermo del Toro is having a terrific year as his Frankenstein adaptation completed its successful festival run and is gearing up for a limited theatrical release. His new book is releasing on October 28, 2025, and then Netflix is adapting The Boy In The Iron Box, the book he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan last year. However, it should be noted that del Toro is just the producer and the movie will be directed by David Prior.

But it is his Frankenstein adaptation starring Oscar Isaac that has all the hype. The official synopsis of the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Mary Shelley’s book reads:

"Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro (Pinocchio, Cabinet of Curiosities, The Shape of Water) adapts Mary Shelley’s classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation."

As mentioned before, the Kevin Durand and Rupert Friend-led movie does not have a release date as the movie has yet to start filming.
