Played by Tai Davis, Tracy Roxboro has been an important character in The Chi, who was introduced in the pilot of the first season itself. Her place is significant in the story as it is her son Jason Roxboro’s murder that sets forward the key events that happen in The Chi.

Tracy began her journey in the show as a devastated mother after coming to learn that her talented basketball player son had been murdered. Throughout the seven seasons, Tracy’s character has undergone much development, and she has now learnt to deal with her grief in a better way.

Talking about Tracy and how the character is often harshly judged on social media because of the decisions she takes fueled by her grief and anger, Davis once told in an interview with ABC,

“People who follow me on Twitter and some who don't, they'll say horrible things about Tracy and I'm like, 'Yeah, you're right. She's horrible. She's awful.' And they're like, 'OMG, it's you! That's OK because you're doing a great job.”

The reaction from the fans shows how her character can evoke strong emotions while dealing with complicated feelings herself.

After the murder of her son Jason, Tracy was determined to find the culprits behind the act and thus teamed up with her ex-boyfriend Ronnie Davis, who was like a father to her son. Ronnie loved Jason deeply and was impacted as much as Tracy by his murder, and thus he got completely involved in the pursuit of finding Jason’s murderer.

However, Ronnie worked in haste, and when he found Jason’s chain on a person named Coogie Johnson, he assumed that he was the killer. Unfortunately, Ronnie shot him fatally even though he was innocent.

Coogie’s death was one of the key points in the storyline of The Chi, and Tracy was at the center of this act since it was she who had asked Ronnie to find the killer at any cost.

Jason’s biological father, Quentin Dickinson, also gets involved, and despite having stayed away from his son all his life, he also gets too angry with his grief and decides to serve justice by himself. Quentin eventually discovered Trice and Detective Wallace to be responsible for Jason’s murder, and thus he killed them both.

He then informs Tracy about the same, who, however, does not rejoice that her son’s killers are dead. She is shown to be rather disgusted with Quentin’s violent way of getting justice. This shows a significant point of development for Tracy's character as she ultimately learnt a better way to deal with the grief and anger that the murder of her son caused her.
