Wednesday is all about gothic vibes with humor, mystery, and drama. And Season 2 promised even more of that strangeness that made fans fall in love with the first season. When the show dropped on Netflix, everyone was excited to see how the story of Nevermore Academy would continue and what kind of wild, weird, and creepy moments the writers had prepared this time. The expectations were high, especially after Season 1 gave us the viral Wednesday dance that took over the internet and turned into one of the most popular TV moments in years.

The arrival of Agnes in Season 2 gave the show a fresh element. She is written as a superfan of the Addams family daughter. She copies her style, her attitude, and even some of her mannerisms. And that instantly made her stand out amongst the rest as a character. Putting Agnes in the same storyline as Enid Sinclair, Wednesday’s werewolf roommate, seemed like a fun idea that could bring some interesting dynamics into the plot. Fans were curious to see what the writers would do with this unlikely pairing and how their personalities would bounce off each other.

By the time the season reached its end, that curiosity turned into confusion. Enid and Agnes performed a big dance number together at the Nevermore fundraising gala. It was colorful and attention grabbing. But it felt like it did not belong in the story. Wednesday works best when the humor and weirdness grow naturally out of the characters. But this scene felt like something made to go viral rather than something the plot actually even needed.

Wednesday Season 2’s dance

The show has always found its success in a different way. It has its creepy visuals, some unique characters, and a mystery that keeps viewers hooked. Season 1 balanced all of that and gave us an iconic dance scene that was totally in tune with Wednesday’s character and her personality. It felt strange and different but it fit her story.

In Season 2, the writers clearly tried to create a similar viral moment. This time with Enid and Agnes. The girls took the stage but it did not land the same way it did when our favorite goth girl performed. The gala sequence is full of spectacle. The characters dance to a new Lady Gaga track made just for the season. The choreography is also elaborate. And Agnes pulls off her wig to show that she is finally stepping out of her obsession, right before the dance. All of this sounds powerful. But when you place it inside the storyline, it feels like the entire plot pauses so the show can deliver a performance piece.

Many fans and critics called the scene pure fanbait. The first season’s dance was great. It was a cultural moment that could not be repeated. And the new dance looks like a deliberate attempt to chase that same viral success. It is not that the performances are bad or that the choreography lacks meaning. The issue is that the scene feels more like a calculated move to get people talking on social media than a natural part of Wednesday’s narrative.

That said, there are still parts of the dance that show some value. Agnes revealing her true self is important to her arc, and Enid getting her own spotlight away from her best friend/roommate is something fans had wanted since the first season. These beats are meaningful. But they could have been written into conversations, conflicts, or other story-driven scenes.

Instead, the writers chose to put them in a grand routine that feels unnecessary. Wednesday is at its best when the characters’ emotions and relationships drive the drama, not when the show stops to recreate a viral internet trend.
