Their comments might not be an official green light for The Hunting Wives Season 2, but these comments were enough to spark talks all across social media.

The reception for the show has been undeniable. Regardless of releasing softly on Netflix after being picked up by Lionsgate, the show has dominated charts. For six weeks straight, The Hunting Wives stayed on Netflix's U.S. Top 10 list, and it even climbed all the way up to the No. 1 spot and landed in the Global Top 10 during its first month.

Fans from around the world found themselves being obsessed with the mix of s*x, secrets, and Southern society, and that obsession is exactly why Akerman and Snow believe there's more story left to tell.

What’s holding back The Hunting Wives Season 2 announcement?

While the excitement is real, there's still a big hurdle in the way of The Hunting Wives Season 2. Unlike other Netflix originals, this series began its journey on Starz before Lionsgate brought it to the streaming giant. Because of that, Netflix doesn't fully own the rights to the show.

According to reports, Lionsgate is now negotiating with Netflix to attain the global rights, which would, in turn, let a second season move forward. Until that deal is sealed, fans are sadly stuck waiting.

Still, the behind-the-scenes comments sound promising. Deadline reported that Lionsgate is already in talks with Netflix. It helps that the show didn't just perform well in the U.S but all over the world.

It was also released internationally on platforms like Stan in Australia and Crave in Canada. With numbers like that, the hunger and thirst for more episodes and another season is clear.

Akerman herself has admitted the reaction took her by surprise. Speaking to reporters, she said;

"We had no idea it was going to hit like this. We thought people would see it, but when it got sold to Netflix, we actually freaked out a little bit because we knew that a lot more people would see it."

That wider audience has turned The Hunting Wives into one of the year's breakout hits, and now both cast and viewers are eager for answers about where Sophie, Margo, and the rest of Alba's tangled web will head next.

The Hunting Wives Season 2 hasn't been officially renewed, but Malin Akerman's comments at the Creative Arts Emmys make it clear the cast feels the speed on their side.

With Lionsgate and Netflix deep in talks, and with the show's massive popularity proving its staying power, it seems like only a matter of time before a renewal is announced. For now, fans can take comfort in Akerman's comments.
