The Hunting Wives premiered on July 21, 2025, on Netflix and quickly became a streaming success.
The show follows rich housewives of a Texas community known as the Hunting Wives. With its intriguing murder mystery and a political backdrop, the show impressed many fans in the US, leaving them anticipating season 2.
The show was also set to be released in other countries outside the USA, such as the UK, India, and France. However, according to Deadline, due to the possibility of a season 2 of the drama, the series is facing a delay in global rollout.
Additionally, due to Lionsgate and Netflix’s talks about the possible renewal of the show, the deals made with all the other regions have been delayed, as Netflix’s involvement would mean a new deal to be formed.
More on this in our story.
The Hunting Wives: Renewal talks delay global rollout
Since the premiere of The Hunting Wives on Netflix, the show has been among the top 10 series of the streaming giant. This might be the reason behind Lionsgate trying to strike a deal with Netflix to renew the series for a second season.
Earlier, the show was released on the streaming platform with a one-year licensing deal between Netflix and Lionsgate. This will be changed if Netflix agrees to renew the show and make it an original Netflix production.
However, this would require global rights, resulting in the delay of the show’s release in International territories, as most of them were not sold to Netflix. Moreover, the process of securing the rights back for Lionsgate from the other buyers would be slow.
Furthermore, Deadline has reported that the process will take time and that neither the streaming service nor the production company has shared any details about the ongoing process yet. While the show’s success has been hinting that Netflix might pick The Hunting Wives for a season 2, it might be a while before it becomes a Netflix original.
What happened at the end of The Hunting Wives?
One of the reasons behind The Hunting Wives’ success was the gripping story, which followed Abby’s murder and destroyed the lives of many in the community. The undeniable chemistry between Sophie and Margo, and the latter's involvement in Abby’s death, was what kept the fans on the edge of their seats.
Additionally, at the end of season 1, Sophie learned everything that Margo was hiding from her and also got involved in an accidental death. This shocking cliffhanger put the duo in a position where they must either report each other to the police or hide their own crimes.
While Netflix and Lionsgate are in talks about a possible renewal, showrunner Rebecca Cutter shared with The Hollywood Reporter that, although it is not confirmed, she knows the viewers want a Season 2.
She said:
"Nothing official, but I feel like everybody wants that! "
Aside from Brittany Snow, the drama series also stars Malin Akerman, Dermot Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit, Jaime Ray Newman, and Katie Lowes, among several others.
