The Simpsons channel on Disney+ is a big move for the platform
Fans of The Simpsons would agree that this isn't just any comedy sitcom but actually a cultural phenomenon. Created by Matt Groening, it first appeared as shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show in 1987, before launching as its own weekly series in 1989.
Over more than 30 seasons, it’s earned dozens of Emmy Awards, Annie Awards, and even a Peabody. Its characters and catchphrases (“D’oh!” anyone?) have become part of popular vocabulary, and its satirical take on family life, politics, and media continues to resonate with viewers around the world.
The show continues to grow with more fans coming in, and even the creator Matt Groening, said:
"The fans are as intense as ever. In fact, more intense. When we were here last, we got a pretty great response. But this time, it’s completely nuts."
The executive producer also added:
"We were here in 2008 and 2010, and it’s even bigger now. It was really big back then, so it’s pretty amazing. But it’s great. The fans are really great."
The show’s staying power is also underlined by its recent renewal. Fox has extended The Simpsons for four more seasons. On the streaming front, the deal between Disney and Fox means that the animated sitcom, which is the vast majority of its 35+ seasons now live on Disney+ for U.S. audiences.
