NBC's popular mockumentary St. Denis Medical premiered in 2024 and has become one of the top shows in the workplace comedy genre. The series revolves around the personal and professional lives of the employees of the Oergaon hospital.

In Season 1, the show introduced the characters and the challenges that they faced in their personal lives, and also in their underfunded and overcrowded hospital. St. Denis Medical Season 1 recap: Joyce makes her decision regarding the $10 million

Wendi McLendon-Covey's Joyce is the ambitious executive director of the hospital. She is often seen as the character who plans a lot about making the hospital number but always falls short due to some or the other issue. While she might appear as an administrator who only thinks about the money, the premiere season also proves that, in the end, Joyce really wants to improve the condition of the hospital.

When she receives the $10 million funds at the gala, she has already made a vision board. However, she is not the only one making plans to use the funds, as several people line up outside her office to ask for the money for the hospital, and she even agrees to all of it. Even Dr. Ron and Bruce want the money for some equipment for their departments.

In the end, she fails to decide where to put the money, and after Ron's advice on going with her original plan, she decides on the birthing centre and expands their family care unit.

St. Denis Medical Season 1 recap: Alex prioritizes her husband over her job

Alex has been the heart of St. Denis Medical Season 1. Whether it's handling the hospital in times of chaos or giving us the numerous moments where she struggled with so many issues in her marriage. Other than Alex's workaholic nature, the other issue highlighted was the argument between Tim and Alex about having a second child.

Alex was against it from the start, and Tim gradually agreed. Therefore, his undergoing a vasectomy was a big decision in their lives and marriage. However, due to a storm, the hospital's ER was overcrowded, taking up most of Alex's time. She had to juggle between being with Tim and managing the nurses.

Alex has struggled the whole season to give her family the attention they deserved, but at the end, she surprisingly chooses to be with her husband and gives the reins to Serena to handle the ER. The surprising move depicts that while Alex loves and is exceptionally well in doing her job, her love for her husband and family has not faded.

St. Denis Medical Season 1 recap: Serena and Matt's future

Amid the struggles that the employees go through in their personal and professional lives in St. Denis Medical Season 1, there was also a will-they-won't-they couple that kept the romantic theme intact in the series. Matt was head over heels for Serena, but wasn't able to confess it to her for the whole season.

However, in a shocking move, he, at the end, decides that he might not be the right person for Serena and moves on. The situation becomes complex when it is revealed that Serena now knows about Matt's feelings for her.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see where the duo stands in the upcoming season, where Matt might be moving on, but Serena might become the one pursuing him.
