The Survivors, the latest from the house of Netflix, is an Australian drama mini-series, based on the bestselling novel by Jane Harper. Consisting of six episodes, The Survivors follows the return of a man to his hometown after 15 years, where he has a tragic history of losing people close to him.

Described by creator Tony Ayres as 'a family melodrama disguised as a murder mystery', The Survivors follows the return of Kieran to Evelyn Bay, his hometown and also the place that claimed the life of his younger brother Finn, along with Toby and Gabby, his friend and Mia’s best friend, respectively. Unable to handle the trauma and guilt that came along with this unfortunate incident, Kieran had considered it best to leave the town.
However, as he returns after 15 years, with his partner Mia, who had also lost her best friend in that incident, old resentments and secrets emerge, further complicating the lives of the characters.
Since Kieran’s mother held him accountable for the death of Finn, he has had an emotionally distant and cold mother all his life. After coming back, Kieran finds that not much has changed as his mother still holds grudges against him.
Moreover, after Kieran’s return to Evelyn Bay, another body washes up on the shore of this beach town, entangling him in a murder mystery. For someone who has past trauma regarding something strikingly similar, Kieran finds his life getting more and more difficult with each passing episode.
Starring Charlie Vickers, Yerin Ha, Shannon Berry, Robyn Malcolm, Jessica De Gouw, Damien Garvey, and Catherine McClements, among others, the show presents a story that works not only as a murder mystery but also one that explores families, secrets, and the pain of unprocessed trauma.
