The Terminal List: Dark Wolf is the spinoff and prequel of the 2022 hit series, The Terminal List, starring Chris Pratt and Taylor Kitsch. It premiered on August 27, 2025, with three episodes. Based on Jack Carr’s novel, the show focuses more on Kitsch’s character, who, with a twisty revelation, was killed at the end of Season 1.

The prequel series takes place seven years before the events of Season 1 of the Prime Video show. In The Terminal List, we saw the darker version of Kitsch’s character, Ben Edwards, while in Dark Wolf, we will get an in-depth exploration of how he went on to work for the CIA after being a Navy SEAL with Pratt’s James Reece and Tom Hopper’s Raife Hastings.

More on this in our story.

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf takes us back seven years before the events of the original series

As per Amazon MGM Studios, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf will explore Ben Edwards' complicated character, his history with Reece when they both served in the SEALs.

In Season 1 of The Terminal List, it was revealed at the end that Edwards was involved in the conspiracy that took the life of Reece’s family. The prequel series will give an in-depth look at how Edwards, who was a friend and acquaintance of Reece during their Navy SEAL days, got himself involved in the dangerous activities.

It will also focus on his character transforming into a darker and manipulative version of himself that we see in the 2022 Prime Video Series. While Edwards died in the original series, his narrative in the series, as he helped Reece numerous times with intel, but later turned out to be the culprit himself, impressed fans, and also made him an enigmatic character whose backstory would be worth checking out.

Seven years before the events of the original series gives a lot more time to explore details about how Edwards changed, joined the CIA, and to know if he ever felt guilty about committing the crimes and being responsible for human lives.

Showrunners’ comments on The Terminal List: Dark Wolf

While fans are excited to delve into the intricacies of Edwards' backstory of turning into a villain, creators of The Terminal List: Dark Wolf also shared their own thoughts about the prequel.

While talking to ScreenRant on August 18, David DiGilio, one of the creators, shared that the fans’ empathetic reaction to Kitsch’s character made them decide to focus on Edwards' story in the spinoff series. He stated:

"Ben Edwards was such a complex character, and Taylor Kitsch brought so much empathy to that role that when we got to the ending and that finale and the reveal about Ben and what he'd done in his fate, suddenly people were debating on either side whether or not he deserved that fate."

DiGilio continued:

"So we realized, as we started to expand this universe, that he was the perfect character to kick off the first spinoff, a prequel, to go back in time and see where Ben came from to see what he missed about the teams."

Jack Carr, the author of The Terminal List and the show's creator, praised Kitsch’s acting and made the character a layered and complex one. He said:

"But I don't think it would've happened without Taylor and what he brought to the role because the character in the pages of the book is much more one dimensional. And then Taylor brought this empathy and this humanity and this depth to that role."

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf is streaming on Prime Video.
