Prime Video’s The Terminal List quickly became one of the streaming platform’s best shows when it premiered in 2022. With high-octane action sequences and an intense narrative following the story of Chris Pratt’s James Reece, the show has become one of the fan favorites.

Taylor Kitsch’s Ben Edwards is the other fan-favorite character, and a spinoff series exploring the reason behind his turning negative is being aired. It was the twist in the finale of Season 1 of the Prime Video series that made him an intriguing character when it was revealed that he was also involved in the deaths of Reece’s family. At the end, it was revealed that Edward earned $20 million by sabotaging Reece and his platoon’s lives in the Syrian mission.

From gaining money to killing numerous soldiers, Edwards still maintained the secret until the end of Season 1, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats as well.

More on this in our story.

The Terminal List: Why Ben Edwards turned on James Reece in Season 1?

Based on Jack Carr’s novel, season 1 of Prime Video’s The Terminal List narrates how Pratt’s Reece went down the path of revenge after he lost his family during the mission in Syria. He, with his friend Ben Edwards, followed the people who were linked to the failure of the mission and the death of his wife and daughter and killed them.

However, it was a shock to Reece as well as the audience when Edwards was revealed to be one of the culprits. The finale revealed that he was aware of the experimental drug that Reece and his platoon members were given to prevent the occurrence of PTSD after their mission. However, the drug was not successful and instead gave them tumors.

Reece discovered that Oberon Analytics had paid a CIA intelligence through a bank in Peru, where Edward had also gone after Hartley’s death. It was then revealed that Edwards was the one who Capstone, the company involved with hiding the details about the drug trial, paid $20 million to ambush and make Reece’s Syria mission a failure by leading them to their deaths.

When Reece confronted his best friend about the betrayal that he did for money, Edwards told him that, other than money, he also did it for his platoon, as he was told they all had tumors and were about to die. He wanted them a death where they didn’t have to be stuck in their hospital beds during their last breaths.

Further, he also told Reece that he had nothing to do with the death of his family. However, Reece was already riled up for taking revenge. On the other hand, devastated by his friend's betrayal, Reece killed Edwards in the end.

Why was Ben Edwards discharged from the SEALs?

While The Terminal List depicted Edwards' betrayal of his best friend, James Reece, the spinoff series, Dark Wolf, depicted why he was not working as a SEAL anymore. In the first episode of the series, it was shown that Edwards had killed a CIA asset after discovering that a child of their Iraqi CIA asset was in the harem of the other CIA.

In a moment of violent emotional outburst, Edwards killed the CIA asset, which resulted in him being discharged from the SEALs. The spinoff series will further depict how Kitsch’s Edwards would go down the line to become the villain in his best friend's story we had already seen in Season 1 of the original series.
