The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 finale delivers some of the most emotional and gut-wrenching scenes of the series. Among them was the brutal and unforgettable moment when Negan killed Bruegel. However, what makes the scene iconic is that we get to see a glimpse of Negan reciting the infamous rhyme, Ennie Meenie Miny Moe, as he walks past Bruegel and Perlie to select who to kill first. For any The Walking Dead enthusiast, this scene transports us to the finale of The Walking Dead Season 6 and Season 7 premiere, where we see Negan reciting the same rhyme as he ruthlessly kills Abraham and Glenn with his Lucille. Eerily..nostalgic, isn't it?

The return of Negan's infamous Ennie Meenie Miny Moe scene in The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 finale

In the finale of The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2, we see Negan and the Burazi preparing to host Perlie and Bruegel for lunch. However, the lunch turns deadly when Negan reveals his true motives. As they flip the table, several walkers crawl out to attack Bruegel's forces. Disarmed at the gate, Perlie chooses to break the statue they brought as a gift. It looks like Bruegel's men came prepared for the attack; they gathered their ammunition from the broken statue and started to counterattack. At the end of the fight, Negan and the Burazi are finally able to capture Perlie and Bruegel and make them kneel. What happens can be tagged as one of the iconic scenes of the season. Negan begins his infamous rhyme that most of us can recall from The Walking Dead Season 6 finale and the Season 7 premiere, as he continues,
"Ennie Meenie Miny Moe. Catch a Tiger by his toe. If he hollers, let him go. My mother told me to pick the very best one, and you are.... it."
Even though the counting ends with Marshal Perlie Armstrong, he chooses to kill Bruegel first. Negan then drags him and forces him to inhale methane before setting his mouth on fire with a torch. Negan's last words to Bruegel were,
"You really want the methane that bad? Take it."
Negan then delivers a deadly blow to Bruegel's head with his infamous baseball bat surrounded by barbed wire.
On the other hand, Perlie manages to escape. When he is about to hunt him down, Maggie, who is shocked to see Negan back in his ruthless avatar, stabs him. She picks up his Lucille 2.0 and runs to kill him to fulfill the promise she made to Hershel previously. However, we witness one of the most heartbreaking scenes. Ginny, who was under Negan's care, had succumbed to her injuries and turned into a zombie. As Negan went near her cell, he broke down. Maggie realizes he isn't as ruthless as he seems to be, and he cares for Ginny, like her father. Maggie finally chooses to spare Negan. After Hershel came to know about what Maggie did, he was disappointed. Additionally, New Babylon forces take advantage of the division among the factions and the Dama's fall from power and start to occupy the streets of Manhattan. Thus, The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 ends on a cliffhanger, keeping the viewers eagerly waiting for what happens next.
