Starz's Outlander: Blood of My Blood has certainly raised the bar for all prequel series. Diana Gabaldon's series of books (Outlander) was adapted into a visually stunning tale on Starz back in 2014. Now that the parent series is wrapping its eight-season-long run with a final season in 2026, the spin-off series is here to continue the legacy.

While seasoned Outlander fans had their doubts about Jamie and Claire's parents' love stories in Outlander: Blood of My Blood initially, the show has rewarded the franchise's long-time fans with many clever call-backs and Easter eggs. These Easter eggs connect the past and present for the Fraser and MacKenzie legacy in emotional and nostalgic ways.

Let's look back at 5 such Outlander: Blood of My Blood Easter eggs that were clever callbacks to the original series.

Here are 5 Outlander: Blood of My Blood Easter eggs that honour the parent series

Murtagh's boar bracelets

Outlander: Blood of My Blood featured the backstory of the iconic boar bracelet from the parent series and revealed that Murtagh won it at the MacKenzie gathering after killing a wild boar to impress Ellen. His fellow men recognised his bravery and he was allowed to keep the boar's tusks as a symbol of his courage.

That is when Murtagh fashioned the boars into two beautiful bracelets for Ellen and finally presented them to her in the finale. This moment was a direct callback to the parent series when Claire was bequeathed those iconic bracelets by Jenny, gifted to Ellen by one of her 'admirers'.

Jamie's wedding gift for Claire

It feels like Ellen's bridal trousseau was partially made up of her suitors' presents. In the Outlander: Blood of My Blood finale, Marcus MacRannoch presented a beautiful pearl necklace to Ellen as one of her suitors, which was later passed on to Claire by Jamie.

An older MacRannoch even appears in the parent series and immediately recognises his pearls when Claire offers them in exchange for rescuing Jamie from Wentworth prison. This particular detail was a nostalgic callback as those pearls hold a significant meaning in Outlander.

Brian MacCardie's connection to Outlander

Scottish actor Brian MacCardie played Issac Grant in Outlander: Blood of My Blood but he could appear in only four to five episodes, as MacCardie tragically passed away in April 2024. The news of his passing was unfortunate but the actor holds a special connection to the parent series as he played Sir Marcus MacRannoch in Outlander Season 1.

This Easter egg was hard even for seasoned Outlander fans because MacCardie's appearance as MacRannoch was very brief. However, his dual characters reflected Outlander’s recurring themes of time and legacy.

Baby Claire's birthday cake

Outlander: Blood of My Blood certainly kept the best for the last as Uncle Lamb and baby Claire made their adorable debut in the present timeline (in the finale), where Julia and Henry were celebrating their daughter's second birthday. From the parent series we know how Claire will grow up with her Uncle Lamb and eventually have her own time-traveling adventure decades later.

The prequel series included a cheeky easter egg in the form of baby Claire's cake, which had strawberries arranged in a circle like the Craigh Na Dun stones. This subtle detail echoed her future, where she would accidentally stumble on these stones and time-travel to the 18th century.

Dougal's marriage to Maura

While new viewers were excited to learn about Ellen and Brian's fate and wanted to know what would happen on the former's wedding day to Malcolm, the parent series had already sealed their fate.

While Maura Grant (Malcolm's sister) made her impressive debut in the Outlander: Blood of My Blood finale, she was name-dropped quite early in the series, which was a clever foreshadowing of her eventual marriage to Dougal. In Outlander Season 1, we even see Dougal mourning a recently deceased Maura.

You can stream Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 1 on Starz.

What makes Outlander: Blood of My Blood particularly special is the way it rewards seasoned fans. Outlander isn’t just about time travel, but it’s about love and the deep bonds that transcend time. But beyond the emotional storytelling, what truly delights long-time viewers are the Easter eggs and how they quietly tie the two shows together.
