Untamed Episode 3 recap: Kyle struggles with his past as Naya goes on a dangerous investigation

Netflix's murder mystery series Untamed follows a Jane Doe murder in the wilderness of Yosemite National Park. In Episode 3, as Kyle and Naya make progress in their investigation, the former is haunted by the demons of his past.

Episode 3 featured a meeting between Kyle and his ex-wife Jill, where the latter expresses her grief over their son's death. The meeting highlights that while the couple is now separated, they are still bound together by their shared grief.

Elsewhere, we also learn that Kyle was contemplating suicide before he was assigned to Lucy Cook's murder case. He confides in his lover Lana and confesses that he was about to jump into the river before he got the call. Lana consoles him and asks him to call her when he has these thoughts again.

Untamed Episode 3 recap: Kyle Turner digs up Lucy's past

After Kyle and Naya identified Jane Doe as Lucy Cook in the first two episodes, they dug into the girl's past in Untamed Episode 3.

We get a flashback into Lucy's life, where she was sitting on the El Capitan cliff with her ailing mother, Maggie. She tells her about El-O-Win, a magical paradise where indigenous spirits can pass over freely. As Maggie gets up to go home, Lucy waves at a mysterious figure.

Kyle and Naya continue their investigation into Lucy's past and learn that after Maggie's death, she was placed with her stepfather, Rory, and half-brother, James. Both Rory and James assumed that Lucy had died after she disappeared when she was just 7 years old. While Rory felt guilty about his abusive actions towards Lucy, he died just a year after her disappearance, beaten to death outside a bar.

In Untamed Episode 3, Kyle and Naya visit James' house in Fresno, who is shocked to learn that his half-sister survived all those years ago. The pair also realize that James is a druggie and find the same X-labelled pill bottles at his home.

While Kyle managed to locate the tattoo artist who did the X tattoos on many people, he claimed that he was unaware of the meaning of this mysterious symbol.

Untamed Episode 3 recap: Naya's investigation leads her to a dangerous path

While Kyle is trying to solve his personal life's mess, his partner wants to interrogate the squatter girl once more. However, when Kyle dismisses Naya's suggestion, she finds his horse and decides to go rogue in Untamed Episode 3.

Adamant about finding the squatter girl, Naya stumbles upon the squatter village and is sure that she has seen the squatter girl with blue eyes. When she tries to follow her, she finds herself in a cave system with wooden flooring. She notices a respirator at the entrance and steps inside the cave.

However, the moment she entered the cave, the floor gave in, and Naya fell down the cave floor. While being trapped inside a cave was scary enough, Naya's panic was palpable as water due to the heavy rains started filling her surroundings.

Untamed Episode 3 took a wild turn as Naya struggled and screamed in pain until Kyle arrived just in time. He used the respirator at the entrance and saved his partner, rescuing her safely from the cave.
