If you also feel duped or disappointed after the Upload Season 4 finale, join the bandwagon, as you are certainly not the only sitcom fan who feels betrayed.

The 2020 science fiction series concluded its four-season run on Amazon Prime Video recently, but fans are not happy with Real Nathan and Nora's fate. The finale saw Luke sacrificing himself (and dying) for Dupe Nathan and Ingrid, who got their happy ending as a couple, while Real Nathan physically died after his body failed following 150+ upgrades at Betta.

After Real Nathan and Nora spent some quality time together on a bench, our protagonist is revealed to have died, which did not sit right with Upload fans.

Reddit user starrysky_99 expressed their frustration with this sad ending for Real Nathan, Nora, Luke, and Aleesha as:

''I'm so disappointed at the way the writers chose to finish this story. not only was Nora left alone, not only did our Nathan die, but Ingrid and Dupe Nathan got the happy ending?''

The comment further read:

''It feels disappointing from an audience perspective, to get an unearned happy ending for Ingrid and Dupe Nathan, while the couple we were made to root for from the beginning were torn apart for no understandable reason.''

Upload fans express their disappointment with Real Nathan's death in the series finale

Real Nathan's death really felt like a gut-punch to Upload fans in the series finale, and they are not holding back. In a recent Reddit thread, the fans flocked to express their disappointment with the series finale. From Real Nathan & Nora's tragic fate, Luke's rushed death, to Ingrid and dupe Nathan's illogical happy ending, here's what the fans are saying.

While Nora's ring was somewhat of an open indicator that suggested that she still might have access to her and Nathan's memories, Upload still ended with Nathan's physical death, which is not acceptable to fans. Reddit user u/mriduuzz posted:

''They had the perfect chance to wrap it up cutely in 4 episodes with a happy ending i was fully gearing up to see nora and nathan HAPPY FOR ONCE TOGETHER all theyve been doing for 4 entire seasons is try to actually be together in peace it was the one thing they should have actually given us since the show has ended for good i’m annoyed like super annoyed.''
''I’m so disappointed in that ending. Even AI Elevator Guy got a happy ending when Nora and Original Nathan don’t? I was sure the finale would be so happy and satisfying that I could spend the whole day smiling. But I a feel so let down by these writers.'' u/Monk6980 agreed

Additionally, fans also slammed the writers for hastily killing off Luke, the fallen hero of the Season 4 finale. While Luke initially began as a somewhat side character in the sci-fi series, he became so much more than a comic relief character, and fans were rooting for him to get together with Aleesha. While the couple was not reunited, Luke illogically died in the Upload Season 4 finale. Reddit user u/Duffy_Devil6 pointed out how futile Luke's death was:

''Couldn’t agree more. I get that Luke is comic relief but I was so attached to him as a character for his ending to be so sudden and unemotional is a WILD choice! Real Nathan’s death was also so random but I kind of understood it a little more than Luke. Everything just felt so sudden and random and odd.''

Additionally, u/Monk6980 also pointed out how the finale events were chaotically rushed and Luke's death was not even given the proper respect and screen time that it deserved:

''That’s exactly it! Everything feels very rushed—we don’t get any kind of a chance to mourn Luke’s death and/or appreciate his sacrifice. The time they wasted on the Botox Babies could have been put to much better use.''

Lastly, Reddit fans seemed the most enraged by Ingrid and dupe Nathan's happy ending in Upload Season 4. While Ingrid, Nathan's once materialistic and obsessive girlfriend, did show character growth in Upload, fans did not feel that it was enough to earn her a happy ending, when Nora was robbed of hers. User u/JustPiera pointed out the unfair fate of the two women as:

''Yes, Ingrid had grown a bit since season 1, but not enough to have earned her dream family. Meanwhile Nora has worked hard all her life as a decent person who wants to help the world -- and she gets nothing.''

While Upload creators have justified the series finale as a creative choice, which had the best arcs for all the respective characters, fans continue to express their disappointment with the sitcom's ending.
