Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians hasn’t even premiered yet, and the internet is already combusting over Season 3 news. And that is all because Rick Riordan (the author and executive producer who says he is allergic to spoilers, somehow keeps dropping them) has now hinted that Kate McKinnon’s Aphrodite won’t be the only Aphrodite fans will meet. OMG, right?

Riordan said to The Wrap in a recent interview:

“I will tell you that we honor that in the third season. So, while Kate is incredible, and maybe a very unexpected and fun sort of manifestation where we spend most of our time with, that’s not the only [one].”

As you can guess by now, this was the very moment that he teased fans into a frenzy after confirming that SNL alum Kate McKinnon will play the goddess of love and beauty in the upcoming season. But she is not alone.

So yeah, if this was the moment when you, as Percy Jackson and the Olympians fans, thought McKinnon’s casting was the twist of the year, Riordan's confirmation that Aphrodite will appear in multiple manifestations.

There will undoubtedly be fan theories and mood boards to come!

It's confirmed: Kate McKinnon joins Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 as well

The big conversation around the Percy Jackson adaptation has always been accuracy. Fans want the plot to be accurate, but more than that, they want the tone and lore to be respected as well. Understandable.

So it makes sense why Riordan’s clarification landed so well with longtime fans. When discussing what Aphrodite's will look like, he explained that beauty is subjective. We also need to remember that, in the books, Aphrodite’s form shifts depending on who is looking at her. So the decision to let the character appear in different forms is, in a way, canon.

Riordan noted:

“Her appearance, her manifestation of ultimate beauty, changes depending on who is beholding that beauty. Because beauty is different for everybody.”

McKinnon is supposed to still serve as the primary version of the goddess, and while that might be an unexpected casting choice, it makes perfect sense. But will she share the role with other actors or prosthetics? Riordan won’t say.

He laughed:

“I’ve probably already said too much,”

And Percy Jackson and the Olympians fans absolutely agree!

Meanwhile, Season 3 will be adapted from The Titan’s Curse, continuing the now-confirmed path of one season per book. Aphrodite’s presence in the story will require Percy to respect love before she agrees to help him. So a bit of manipulative parenting then, but nothing we haven't seen before.

The road to Season 3 starts with Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, and that’s coming soon

Before going into a world of divine glam, fans are gearing up for Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, premiering on Disney+ on December 10.

This chapter adapts The Sea of Monsters. And that will finally be bringing Percy’s cyclops brother, Tyson (Daniel Diemer), into the live-action story. The teaser from San Diego Comic-Con already confirmed monsters and magic.
