If there’s one thing Wednesday knows how to do, it’s keeping us glued to the screen until the very last second. The Netflix hit, based on the iconic Addams Family characters, has mixed mystery, dark humor, and supernatural twists into a perfect binge-worthy package.

Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 was no exception, ending with a moment that has everyone talking, Wednesday helping a mysterious woman escape from Willow Hill. The scene was brief, but it was clear that this woman wasn’t just another random character.

The way Wednesday looked at her, the extra care she took to guide her out, it all screamed this person is important. Naturally, fans (myself included) have been busy piecing together clues.

And after watching the season and rewatching key moments, I keep coming back to two possibilities. I believe this mystery woman is either Tyler’s mother, Francoise Galpin, or Morticia’s long-lost sister, Ophelia.

Keep reading to explore how these theories make sense.

Theory 1: The mystery woman in Wednesday Season 2 is Tyler's mother

From the moment we met Tyler in season 1, his family history has been full of gaps. We learned that his mother, Francoise Galpin, was an outcast and not just any outcast, but a Hyde, just like Tyler himself. After she had Tyler, she went through a deep post-partum depression, which caused her Hyde side to spiral out of control.

Her monstrous transformation led to her being sent to Willow Hill, the same facility where Wednesday later finds the mystery woman. The official story says Francoise died there, but something about that never sat right with me.

In Wednesday Season 2 Part 1, Sheriff Galpin’s involvement in the LOIS program investigation seemed unusually personal. His focus went beyond standard law enforcement duties, as if the case touched something in his own life.

The way his scenes played out suggested he might have suspected Francoise’s fate was not what the official story claimed. That determination, however, put him in dangerous territory.

Before he could find any solid clues, Judi Spannegel and her crows ended his investigation permanently. But Wednesday didn't give up. She stepped into Willow Hills once more and finally learned about the experiments.

While none of the other outcasts’ cells had warnings, the mystery woman’s gate bore a clear one: "Extreme caution. No unauthorized entry". This explains that the woman might be incredibly dangerous if she's a hyde.

Not only that, but when the other outcasts were freed, the mystery woman stayed behind, only stepping out when Wednesday brought her, claiming she was there to help. It’s possible that her Hyde side is currently under control, but if unleashed, she could prove to be even more dangerous than Tyler.

Theory 2: She's Morticia's sister, Ophelia, in Wednesday Season 2

My second theory about the mystery woman at the end of Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 is that she's none other than Morticia's sister, Ophelia. She has always been a ghost in the Addams family, as Morticia revealed that it's been two decades since they have heard anything from Ophelia.

Additionally, Morticia’s mother works in the funeral business, hinting that she might also be tied to these events. Wednesday shares similarities with her aunt, too. Both experienced black tears when their abilities were pushed beyond their limits.

Another detail in the Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 finale is how cautious Wednesday was when leading the woman out. She allowed the other outcasts to leave on their own, but personally escorted this woman, almost as if she felt some kind of connection to her.

Both theories make sense, and either reveal would be exciting. Francoise’s return could turn Tyler’s world upside down, while Ophelia’s comeback would add depth to the Addams family story and challenge Wednesday.

This woman doesn’t feel like a random addition. With how the show connects past clues, she’s likely to play a big role in Wednesday Season 2 Part 2.
