Wednesday Season 2 ended in a shockingly dramatic way that left fans anticipating the next installment of the popular Netflix show. The series, based on the legendary Wednesday Addams, ended its most recent season with plot twists such as the threatening metamorphoses of Tyler Galpin into Hyde and the reverberating effect of the same on the family and friends of Wednesday.

The season finale has also presented new mysteries and upcoming threats that have sufficiently prepared the ground for the storyline in Season 3. Wednesday is left bruised and bloodied but is more determined than ever; the viewers are left wondering what dark secrets and supernatural challenges the beloved gothic heroine will face next.

Wednesday Season 2 focused more on the darker and elaborate storylines alongside preserving the show’s usual mix of macabre humor and mystery, and this has increased anticipation amongst the fans on what to expect in the future. Netflix officially announced that Season 3 is in development, but it is not in production yet, which allows for the possibility to introduce new surprises and intriguing storylines.

Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan) was first introdced to us as the love interest of Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) in Season 1. and there is a visible chemistry between the two characters. The creators of the show have confirmed that Tyler is the closest person that Wednesday gets to a romantic relationship, as seen in Season 1.

Nonetheless, the romance is tainted by the discovery that Tyler is a monstrous Hyde that is being controlled by some dark forces and commits violent crimes. This destroys Wednesday’s confidence, and she shuts the door on the relationship.

In Wednesday Season 2, we see Tyler Galpin transform into the terrifying Hyde, and a bloody confrontontation that leads to the death of his master, Marilyn Thornhill. In the chaos, Tyler also ends up seriously injuring Wednesday by throwing her through a window, leaving her bloodied and heavily wounded. Wednesday does not die, but Tyler is still alive, psychologically unstable and free. This storyline establishes a tense and unpredictable dynamic for Season 3 as there is a potential for both redemption and more darkness.

So what becomes of Tyler and Wednesday in Season 3? Hunter, in conversation with TV Insider, reveals:

“All I can speak to is what I think Tyler’s feelings are. And I think that the human side of him definitely does have those deep feelings for her. And I think we got to see just like, it was really fun to play with, you know, there are so many layers in front of him with the Hyde and being controlled by different people. The fact that his feelings for her are so strong, they have these little unspoken moments of peaking through. It was really fun to find those.”

During the final moments of Wednesday Season 2, a chilling scene shows that Morticia Addams’s missing twin sister, Ophelia Frump, has been imprisoned in an obscure, dimly-lit room in the mansion of Grandmama Hester Frump. Ophelia, the psychic raven who shares the same powers as Wednesday, has been affected mentally and emotionally because of being isolated and having no control over her powers.

The walls of the room ominously have the words “Wednesday must die”. These words are inscribed in red, as though written in blood, and this might hint at a threatening message, even hatred toward her niece.

The history of Ophelia, disclosed by Morticia and the lore of Wednesday Season 2, is that she pushed her psychic powers too far, leading to disastrous consequences: She turns mad, starts shedding black tears: a condition that both Ophelia and Wednesday experience upon a psychic overload. Ophelia was taken to a mental institution against the desires of Morticia, but she ultimately managed to break free and disappear.

The motives of her incarceration, her mental state, and her menacing message were unclear by the end of Wednesday Season 2. It is also unclear whether she actually wants to harm Wednesday, or if it is some sort of cautionary oracle associated with evil visions she has witnessed.

The fact that Grandmama hides Ophelia and seems to have no visible response to the threatening message is also part of the mystery and suggests intricate family relationships and potential manipulation.

Joanna Lumley, who plays Grandmama Hester Frump, told TV Insider:

“I often wonder if the notion of being a spirit guide means that you are all-seeing, all-knowing, and sometimes you can’t tell people everything. Sometimes they are just not ready.”

Showrunner Alfred Gough shared with Netflix’s Tudum:

“Our goal for Season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can. We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday.”

Co-showrunner Miles Millar added:

“We will be seeing more Addams family members and learning more family secrets in Season 3!”
