One of the main characters in HBO's popular crime drama Task is that of Cliff Broward, played by Raúl Castillo. The third episode Nobody's Stronger Than Forgiveness, aired on HBO on Sunday, September 21, 2025. The episode moves forward in a major way as the walls are closing in on Cliff and Robbie, as Cliff has been identified by both Tom's FBI task force and Dark Hearts gang.

While Cliff is alive for now, he might be in danger in the next episode, as Cliff has been identified by groups on both sides of the law in the HBO crime drama. The synopsis of this Task episode reads:

"As Cliff and Robbie look for a buyer, Aleah and Lizzie question Peaches' former coworkers, and Tom and Grasso pursue a lead."

The task force learns Cliff's identity:

The first act of the episode sees Tom and Anthony Grasso visiting Jayson and Perry to inform them about a mole inside the Dark Hearts gang. Meanwhile, Lizzie and Aleah visit Peaches' (Cliff and Robbie's dead collaborator) old workplace to ascertain if he ever told his co-workers about his secret of being a robber. There, one of Peaches' colleagues tells the FBI agent about Cliff.

The colleague also informs them about Cliff's work as a sanitation worker. Meanwhile, Cliff and Robbie pay a visit to the former's old cellmate, Ray, for help in moving drugs. However, Ray and his wife, Shelley, break into Cliff's house at the beginning of the third act of this Task episode. However, the two are apprehended by Tom and his team and are brought in for questioning.

This interrogation reveals that Ray and his wife were trying to steal Cliff's drugs and sell them to make money themselves. The team instead messages Cliff asking him to meet in a park where he will be intercepted by them. The closing minutes of the episode also reveal that the Dark Hearts know about Cliff's role in the robberies, hinting that one of the three members of Tom's team might be the biker gang's mole.

Therefore, the upcoming episode would see Robbie and Cliff trying hard to move their stolen drugs around as Tom and his team are trying to find Sam and solve the case by bringing down the robbers who are stealing from the drug houses. With the release of the third episode this week, only four episodes are left, with the last one releasing on October 19, 2025.

According to Brad Ingelsby, this one and Mare of Easttown are in the same universe:

The cast and crew of the Task sat down for an interview with Variety in which Ingelsby revealed that the Mark Ruffalo-led series is not a standalone show. Instead, it is supposedly in the same continuity as Brad Ingelsby's previous HBO hit Mare of Easttown. Here's what he told Variety on September 7, 2025:

"Absolutely. We wanted to embrace that. We never said, “Let’s try to make it not like ‘Mare.'” In fact, a lot of the same crew from “Mare” worked on this show, because we wanted there to be a consistency, and we wanted the audience to watch the show and think, “This is ‘Mare’s’ world, but the story is different.”"

Watch the fourth episode that is going to air on HBO on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
