Yes, Chef! Episode 8 dropped on NBC on June 16, 2025. The episode featured a very different challenge than what chefs are used to. And at the end of it all, one of them went home.
There are only five remaining contestants on the show, and they have to put forth their absolute best to get their names in the Top 4. This episode of Yes, Chef! brought in culinary students, and each of them was paired with a contestant.
The contestants will have to give up control and instead, guide these students to make their dish. Martha, talking about the challenge, said,
"Say hello to the next generation of chefs. These students are here to cook your dishes under your tutelage."
Judge José then added to the challenge further by explaining that the chefs cannot touch or taste anything during the entire process. And as for the students, they can just reply with a "Yes, Chef!" or a "No, Chef!"
Yes, Chef! Episode 8 - The Challenge
The challenge on Yes, Chef! Episode 8 began with the chefs and their students getting a 10-minute window to discuss the dish and then start working on it.
Chef Zain Ismail was paired with Keana, who is 18 years old. She has been in culinary school for just 1 year. The duo had decided to make spiced lamb chops, squash purée with tamarind ginger glaze.
After tasting the same, the judges liked the taste of the dish; however, they were not very impressed with the plating and presentation.
Chef Petrina Peart was coupled up with Ajay, who is 22 years old and has been in culinary school for two years. They made King Trumpets along with Fried Nori "Surf" and Maitake Duxelle "Turf."
This was a vegan dish, and Petrina, even though she was scared for her spot, decided to trust Ajay. When Martha tasted their dish, it was difficult to cut, but she appreciated the spin on it. However, Judge José was more critical of the same.
Chef Lee Frank was with Jack, who is also 22 and has been in culinary school for two years. They made duck with cauliflower purée, pomme paillasson, and blackberry whip.
Even though they hit a roadblock with the food processor, the team adapted well to the problem and came out stronger, which the judges appreciated.
Chef Emily Brubaker was paired with student Mukund, who is 25 years old. He has been in culinary school for 5 years, and they decided to make poached tiger prawn in beurre monté along with fennel royale and caviar.
And last but not least, it was Chef Jake Lawler with Cameron, who is 24 years old, and has been in culinary school for 4 years. They decided to prepare venison loin, romanesco with maitake, and cranberry dust.
