Netflix's action comedy series FUBAR is back with Season 2, with Arnold Schwarzenegger returning as CIA operative Luke Brunner.
While the father-daughter duo races against time to save the world from Dante Cress' explosive plan to launch a missile and ignite a war with Russia, one interesting sub-plot from Season 1 also took a surprising turn.
In the Season 1 finale, it was revealed that Luke's team analyst Tina (Aparna Brielle) is a Russian mole who has been feeding classified information about his team to the Soviets' intelligence.
While Tina managed to save her cover from Luke and her nerdy boyfriend Barry, they finally learn her secretive identity in FUBAR Season 2, which takes a shocking turn, setting up an interesting Season 3.
More on this in our story.
FUBAR Season 1: Tina was revealed to be the Russian mole
After hinting that Luke's CIA team was infiltrated by a Russian mole, the FUBAR Season 1 finale suggested that it was none other than Tina. After Boro crashed Tally's wedding and Lke's team's identities were compromised, Tina was seen at the CIA headquarters, answering a mysterious phone call in Russian:
"I can't talk right now. I'm in the middle of something."
This scene implicitly confirmed Tina to be the Russian mole, who was feeding classified information about Luke and his team to the country. This was especially heartbreaking for the fans as she had also started a romance with the nerdy Barry, which was also likely a ruse.
Talking with TV fanatic about her double agent life in FUBAR, actress Aparna Brielle said:
''So there’s definitely that heartbreak for the audience, which I was excited to play with. I’ve always played these good girls, or sweet girls, or someone whose secrets are out there for the audience from the beginning. It was different, playing a character where I had to keep a secret the whole time.''
Tina's character took a positive turn in FUBAR Season 2
With Tina's mole cover still intact in Season 1, her story was a highly anticipated point for the sophomore season.
However, Barry and Luke's team finds out about Tina's secretive identity in Season 2 Episode 5, after which a prisoner swap was arranged with the Russians.
The FUBAR Season 2 finale saw Barry and Aldon deliver Tina to the Russians in exchange for the Great Dane. After Barry hears Dane's accounts while being in the Russians' captivity, he realises that Tina was feeding them false information and actually protecting Luke's team.
In addition, Barry also realises that the Russians have learned that Tina has double-crossed them and they will likely kill her. The Season 2 final moments saw Barry deciding to go after the Russians and save Tina.
Talking about Tina's positive change in Season 2, creator Nick Santora discussed with Netflix Tudum:
“We felt so sorry for Barry when Tina showed her true colors. Everyone loves Barry, so we knew the audience would hate her for hurting him. But the final moments of the season put a new color on the whole storyline!”
While Tina confirmed that she did not love Barry and it was all a ruse, he was convinced that their love was real. The final moments confirmed his suspicions and set up for an exciting arc for the couple in FUBAR Season 3.
