The latest episode of Law & Order: SVU Season 27 introduced some new changes in Benson's squad. With hints of Velasco leaving for another job given to him, a new member joins the squad. Episode 2 of Season 27 introduces Detective Jake Griffin, played by Corey Cott.

Chief Tynan was the one who sent Griffin to Benson to improve his detective skills. However, his reputation for being the sole hero in his previous department that dealt with robberies and general crimes becomes a difficulty in this new victim-centric department of SVU, where teamwork is appreciated rather than going solo.

After being told numerous times by Benson, he finally becomes helpful in the end when he brings Isabella's contact details to help with the case.

More on this in our story.

Who is the new detective on Law & Order: SVU Season 27? Details explored

Apart from the news of Velasco leaving the team for an undercover mission, Law & Order: SVU Season 27 also introduced a new detective. Corey Cott's Jake Griffin is everything the SVU team does not need. Sent by Benson's senior, it is revealed that Griffin trained under Tynan after his father's death, who was the Chief's partner.

He is sent to improve his detective skills. However, his reputation and nickname of 'Batman' do not help his case. With the new case of alleged exploitation of women in a social club, Griffin gets to see the sensitive areas the squad works in. His handling of the victim, Maya, depicted how unprepared he is for the SVU team, as they are a victim-centric unit.

This gets him scolded by Benson, but he still manages to help the team, even by defying Benson's orders.

Law & Order: SVU Season 27 - Griffin's help in the case gives him a chance to stay on the team

At the beginning of the episode of Law & Order: SVU Season 27, Griffin looks like an outsider trying to grasp how the team works. He also ends up breaking rules by not following Benson's orders several times, even going back to the club after Benson's clear instructions to stay away from there.

However, in the end, it pays off for him as he brings contact details of a woman named Isabella, who works at the club. The woman testifies against the club's owner, Derek, and reveals how the club works and takes advantage of the women working there.

After the case is solved, he apologizes to Benson for going behind her back and tells her that if she wants to transfer him somewhere else, he would be okay with it. However, Benson decides to let him stay with the team as he made a victim feel comfortable and talk to him, which is the priority of the team.

Therefore, we might get to see more of Cott's character in the upcoming episodes of the popular procedural series.

Besides being a part of the team in Law & Order: SVU Season 27, Corey Cott has also previously appeared in the acclaimed series in 2016 in its Season 18. Apart from that, the American actor has also been a part of popular shows such as The Equalizer, Chicago Med, The Good Fight, Madam Secretary, and Filthy Rich, among others.
