One of the reasons why Mare of Easttown became a success was its layered characters. The show told the story of the titular police detective, who had to solve the murder mystery of a teenage girl while dealing with personal challenges.
Apart from Mare, there are several characters in the show who drive the narrative forward. One of them is Siobhan. Played by Angourie Rice, Siobhan is the teenage daughter of Mare in Mare of Easttown.
She was the last person seen with the murdered girl before the tragedy, and hence, is a person of interest in the case. She grapples with teenage issues and grows distant from her parents. Her s*xuality is also an important aspect of her personality, as she is out as a lesbian.
Siobhan is Mare’s daughter in Mare of Easttown
Siobhan Sheehan is Mare’s teenage daughter in Mare of Easttown. She was not raised in a healthy environment, as her family often dealt with grief or anger while raising her. Her mom, Mare, is a detective who spends most of her time on cases. On the other hand, her dad, Frank, has already moved on with a new fiancée.
Her brother, Kevin, passed away a few years ago, adding to her traumas. Siobhan feels stuck between her mom and dad, and tries to build her own life. She feels distant from both her parents and often clashes with Mare.
In the first episode, she attends a party in the woods, where she tries to help Erin McMenamin, who is being bullied. However, Erin pushes her away. Later that night, Erin is found murdered, and Siobhan feels guilty about not being able to save her.
Siobhan is interested in filmmaking and plays in a band, and she has her ambitions. When they perform on a college radio station, she meets Anne, a DJ who becomes her love interest. Their relationship adds drama to the show and a little happiness to Siobhan’s otherwise messed-up personal life.
Siobhan blames her mother for Kevin’s death and feels like she could have stopped him from killing himself. The mother and daughter duo finally have a heart-to-heart conversation in the last episode, which enables them to mend their issues and reconcile. By the end of Mare of Easttown, Siobhan decides to turn her life around and go to Berkeley.
