Why did Rowan Clausen kill Patrick in The Rookie? Details from the police procedural, explored

In The Rookie Season 4, Episode 16, Officer Aaron is suspected of the murder of the reality show’s director, Morris Mackey, who was found dead at his parents’ house. The episode also brings up the case of Patrick’s death, for which Aaron was the prime suspect.

However, this episode finally proved how Aaron was framed by Rowan Clausen, another friend, who actually killed Patrick. Through an interview for the Aaron reality show, LAPD Officer Angela Lopez (Alyssa Diaz) revealed that she was the one who investigated and discovered that Rowan had killed Patrick, as the latter might have learned about his drug smuggling.

Later, through a dramatic live stream, Rowan is arrested by Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford for the crimes of killing Patrick as well as Morris.

In the documentary-style episode of The Rookie Season 4, Aaron attempts to revamp his image by participating in a reality show. The episode begins with Detective Lopez revealing her investigation into Rowan Clausen. She reveals that she looked into Rowan’s background and learned that his family was financially struggling.

However, as he became friends with Aaron and Patrick, his financial condition suddenly improved. Now, he owns a car and a house as well. In the interview, Detective Lopez shared that with the foreign trips in Aaron’s private jet, Rowan began to smuggle drugs and made a lot of money out of it.

However, before Aaron, Patrick discovered this and confronted Rowan. This prompted him to kill Patrick to silence. All of this happened in Paris, where Aaron later found Patrick’s body in their shared room, and was arrested for the crime as he was the only one present at the crime scene.

It is also revealed that Morris found out about Rowan’s secrets, which resulted in his being murdered as well.

The Rookie: Did Rowan get arrested for his crimes?

Rowan’s arrest in Episode 16 of The Rookie Season 4 was as dramatic as it could get. While he was playing golf with his friend, Keith, who asked him about whether he believes Aaron killed Patrick or not, while live-streaming the whole conversation.

While Rowan had maintained in front of Aaron that he believed the latter didn't kill Patrick, in the live-stream video, he calls Aaron a psycho and perfectly capable of committing the crime. However, his tirade of lies comes to a halt when Bradford and Chen arrive to arrest him for Patrick and Morris’s murder. He initially denies doing it, but when Lucy revealed that he committed both murders to keep his drug smuggling a secret, he tried to escape from there.

However, more police officers come to the golf course to detain Rowan, and as a result, he is arrested by Lucy at the end. This exempts any misconceptions that people had about Aaron’s involvement in the crimes.
