The NCIS universe is expanding yet again with NCIS: Tony & Ziva, the newest spin-off show, which will be available for streaming on Paramount+ from September 4, 2025.

Created by John McNamara and moderated by NCIS' Brian Dietzen, the spin-off show will follow stars Michael Weatherly (Anthony DiNozzo) and Cote de Pablo (Ziva David) as they reprise their respective characters from the parent series for another epic adventure.

On Thursday, Weatherly and de Pablo appeared at the San Diego Comic-Con to unveil another trailer and an exclusive sneak peek into the first ten minutes of NCIS: Tony & Ziva Episode 1, No Country Is Safe.

The premiere kicked off with Tony and Ziva living with their daughter in Paris until Tony is framed for money fraud, which forces the couple on the run across Europe.

While the couple is now in Paris, the harrowing events in NCIS: Tony & Ziva could possibly reunite them with their OG team, especially since Tony is accused of fraud. However, the creator and stars shared conflicting opinions about the crossover.

NCIS: Tony & Ziva might feature a crossover with the OG team

While fans are very excited about Tony and Ziva's return in NCIS: Tony & Ziva, they are wondering whether the couple will be reunited with their OG NCIS team.

Both Tony and Ziva were important members of the team. However, after Ziva was killed off-screen in NCIS Season 13, Tony also left the team in the Season 13 finale and moved to Paris with their daughter, Tali.

Ziva was confirmed to be alive in Season 16, and the character returned for several episodes in the parent series. Both Tony and Ziva were highly popular characters, and fans are excited to see the couple in action once again.

According to a report by Collider, while Weatherly is against a crossover with NCIS, McNamara is open to the possibility:

“Absolutely! It's going to make them seem more realistic. There are name drops that come up. To me, I felt like we were setting the spike for that.”

Since both Tony and Ziva have remained such important characters in the parent series, it makes sense that they reunite with the OG team, even for one episode.

In a previous TV Insider interview, Steven D. Binder, current writer and executive producer for NCIS, was open to the idea of a crossover between the shows:

“I am speaking without authority to speak for the studio and network, how they would feel about [a crossover], but they tend to be very pro-crossover stuff. So now that we actually have some stuff in the can, we definitely want to take a look at that. It’d be fun, it’d be good for them, I’m sure fun for the audiences. There’s no reason to not do it unless there’s a reason to not do it that I’m not aware of.”

While NCIS: Tony & Ziva's crossover with the OG team would make sense, Binder agreed that it might be a problem because of their respective timelines. In addition, while NCIS airs on cable TV, Tony & Ziva will be streaming on Paramount+.

“I can tell you because of the timeline — we are on a network production schedule and they are on a streaming much longer term…[But] I would love to. I think that would be great.”

While the different formats might create some problems, both McNamara and Binder seem to be interested in the idea. However, with Weatherly not on board, it is difficult to be certain how things will unfold in the spin-off series.
