Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 3, Another Rick Up My Sleeve, was set in an alternate universe. This is not surprising, considering the previous week’s second episode ended with Christopher falling asleep in the alternate dimension after a testy exchange with the DCU dimension’s Emilia Harcourt. The third episode of this season is the happiest we have seen Chris in the entire series, including the first season.
However, despite things being idyllic for Christopher, this dimension is not what it seems. Chris is happy because, in this universe, his dead alternate self had everything he ever wanted, from a loving father to the affections of the woman he always loved, Emilia Harcourt. But many viewers have begun to scratch beneath the surface of this alternate dimension in Peacemaker Season 2.
After the third episode of Peacemaker Season 2, many viewers believe that fascism won in the alternate dimension and that the Smith family of this dimension enforces the status quo.
The Sons of Liberty, seen in Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 3, may have had a point
The third episode of Peacemaker Season 2 introduces the Sons of Liberty, a terror group in the alternate dimension. It is suggested that the Smith family and the A.R.G.U.S. of this dimension have clashed with this terror group in the past. The terror group attacks a government building and takes the employees there hostage. The moment in which the terror outfit described the government as oppressive stood out to viewers.
While Christopher brutally murders the group members inside the building, Keith, in his Captain Triumph outfit, kills the Sons of Liberty inside a helicopter assisting in the attack, blowing it up. As the helicopter falls down the street, Captain Triumph doesn’t care that it can cause collateral damage, and neither does Harcourt 2. This scene has fans convinced that the alternate dimension Christopher was not that good.
Some Redditors theorized that the alternate dimension might be fascist even before the third episode:
Some Redditors pointed out two things in the previous two episodes of Peacemaker Season 2. In the last act of the season 2 premiere, Chris comes across an adult and alive Keith in the alternate dimension. The DCU Peacemaker is also surprised to learn that his father is rather affectionate and that the family is wealthy, respected, and popular in this dimension.
But the theory posits that just because the Auggie of this dimension was affectionate to his children does not mean that he was not a racist. Thus, the Peacemaker that the DCU Christopher killed in the season 2 premiere could’ve been a man who embraced his father’s racist beliefs. But the biggest clue to the fascist nature of this dimension is in the first episode of Peacemaker Season 2 itself.
When DCU Chris meets a grown Keith for the first time, the latter, mistaking him for this dimension’s Peacemaker, reveals that he was supposed to be in Blüdhaven. Blüdhaven is the first Robin, Richard Grayson’s, city in the comics. What is to be noted here is the way Keith pronounces Blüdhaven in the episode.
The English pronunciation of Blüdhaven is Bloodhaven. But Keith's pronunciation here leans towards German, i.e., Bluedhaven. Thus, many fans have theorized that Germany won World War II in this alternate dimension. Given the DCU Auggie Smith’s fascist and racist beliefs, it wouldn’t be surprising if this dimension’s Auggie was just as bigoted. He just loved his kids, and they embraced their father’s bigotry.
The second interesting hint towards a fascist state is the dress Emilia Harcourt 2 wears in the Peacemaker Season 2 intro dance sequence. The dress she wears covers her ankles, resembling N*zi propaganda depictions of traditional German trad wives.
Actor Steve Agee's comments also hinted that this season will address whether this alternate dimension is as idyllic as Christopher believes it to be
Steve Agee plays the role of the A.R.G.U.S. agent John Economos in both seasons of the popular HBO Max DC series. Agee sat down for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter after the season 2 premiere. When the interviewer said that they felt this season of Peacemaker would answer the well-known expression, “The grass is always greener on the other side,” Agee agreed, saying:
"A hundred percent! It’s a big theme, and it’s a theme that’s tested throughout the season. I’m assuming you have only been shown the first five episodes?"
He further added:
"There’s a reason for that. The last three episodes are almost like a whole new season. They are absolutely insane, and they really cross into that actual question even more so."
Given the clues mentioned before and Steve Agee’s quotes, Christopher might be disillusioned with this dimension if he looked past the surface of this alternate reality.
