Old Money is Netflix's latest Turkish-language romantic series that follows a clash between generational wealth and new money through its two protagonists.
As the last princess of a crumbling dynasty, Nihal shifts from France to Istanbul to help her debt-ridden father and to save her family's seaside mansion. Elsewhere, Osman is the controller of his Bulut family's trade business, adamant on acquiring Nihal's mansion at any cost. However, when they clash, an unlikely romance sparks.
Old Money is led by A-list actors from the Turkish industry, namely Engin Akyürek and Aslı Enver, who play the lead couple of Osman and Nihal, respectively. The additional cast also includes Dolunay Soysert, İsmail Demirci, Serkan Altunorak, Taro Emir Tekin and Selin Şekerci.
Netflix has neither renewed nor canceled Old Money for Season 2 yet. However, fan reception and the open-ended finale of the freshman season suggest that the romantic series could likely return for a second season soon.
More on this in our story.
Netflix has not yet renewed Old Money for Season 2
Old Money debuted on Netflix on October 10. The Turkish series has largely received positive reviews from audiences and they certainly want more after that tragic ending for Nihal and Osman. While Netflix has not yet renewed the show for Season 2, there are high chances that fans will get to see Nihal and Osman together on their screens again.
The streaming giant usually relies on a show's popularity, viewership and streaming numbers to decide its fate. While the streaming numbers for the first outing of the show are yet to be revealed, Netflix could invest in Old Money Season 2 after that cliffhanger ending.
Season 1 ended on a tragic cliffhanger
Another factor that hints Netflix might invest in Old Money Season 2 is that the freshman season ended on a tragic note. Osman and Nihal's new money and generational wealth clash was at the heart of the narrative, but it took a back seat as they fell in love with each other. While Nihal and Osman spent a majority of the season together, Nihal's trust issues got the best of her and she pushed Osman away from her.
In the finale, Engin proposed to Nihal and she considered a stable marriage with her best friend rather than a passionate love with Osman. While her heart still belonged to Osman, she accepted Engin's proposal and was headed to Europe for a vacation with him. Elsewhere, Osman finally secured the keys to his dream mansion from Nihal's father but he realized its futility. He was heartbroken to learn that he had lost Nihal, even when he acquired her mansion.
Old Money Season 2 can return with the lovers being separated. Since Nihal and Osman's fans want to see them together, they will likely realise their love for each other and work on their differences if the show returns with a second season.
Netflix's commitment to Turkish stories continues to grow
Old Money was announced by Netflix back in November 2024. This is when the streaming giant declared its desire for Turkish stories and to make them accessible for local and global audiences. In addition to this romantic series, 12 new Turkish productions were also announced for 2025.
Unveiling this exciting lineup of Turkish shows, Özge Bağdatlıoğlu, the Director of Netflix Türkiye, said:
"It’s an honor to unveil our diverse new slate of Turkish stories, celebrating the creativity that defines Türkiye. We’re committed to amplifying Türkiye’s authentic voices, and we’re thrilled to offer our members in Türkiye and around the world a first glimpse into these stories, inviting them into the heart of our culture, imagination, and artistry."
This commitment suggests that Netflix will likely invest in more Turkish shows and movies in the future, which could also materialize in Old Money Season 2.
