9-1-1: Nashville has stirred up curiosity, especially among fans of 9-1-1: Lone Star, who want to know if Rob Lowe will make a comeback as Owen Strand. The answer? Maybe.
Though there's no official confirmation, Lowe hasn't shut the door. In fact, his comments suggest he's open to slipping back into Owen's boots but only if the story fits and the call comes through.
Lowe’s take on Owen’s future and his ties to the new 9-1-1: Nashville
Rob Lowe may have stepped away from the 126 in 9-1-1: Lone Star, but he hasn't ruled out a return to the franchise. With 9-1-1: Nashville now on the table, the big question is whether Owen Strand could pop up in Music City.
What makes this possibility even more interesting is that Rob's brother, Chad Lowe, is deeply involved in the Nashville spinoff as both an executive producer and director. That family connection could be the key to Owen's next move.

While talking to Decider, Rob joked about the situation and dropped a playful hint.
"I'll have to ask Chad Lowe, my brother...Chad Lowe is the executive producer, director of 9-1-1: Nashville. So I'm just waiting for my phone to ring. I mean, you know, I hired him on Lone Star. I think turnabout is fair play."
That last line isn't just a joke, and it's a clever way of saying he's game, as long as the opportunity knocks.
Although 9-1-1: Lone Star wrapped up with Owen heading back to New York City as fire chief, the ending felt more like a pause than a farewell. It left enough room to bring the character back, especially now that the franchise is expanding.
Could Nashville really be Owen’s next chapter?
When 9-1-1: Lone Star hinted at killing off Owen in its final episode, even Lowe thought that might be the right way to go. He'd reportedly pushed for the character's death.
But in a last-minute twist, the show spared him, letting him walk away alive and well, which now leaves the door wide open for a reappearance. The fact that Owen survived feels intentional, like the writers wanted to keep their options on the table.
What's more, Lowe's brother Chad wasn't just behind the scenes, but he also played Owen's dying brother Robert in Lone Star and directed episodes across both the original series and its spin-offs.
That shared history adds another layer to the possible crossover. Lowe may be waiting for that phone call, but he's not holding his breath. And neither is showrunner Tim Minear. When asked about Lowe joining 9-1-1: Nashville, Minear didn't confirm or deny anything. "It's not impossible," he said, while also commenting on there currently being no plans for that at present.
Still, fans know that in the world of 9-1-1, storylines have a way of circling back. If the showrunners find the right reason and moment, Owen Strand could easily step into the Nashville spotlight.
Rob Lowe hasn’t confirmed a return to 9-1-1: Nashville, but the chance is still hanging in the air. With his brother Chad behind the scenes and unfinished business from Lone Star, all it takes is the right story and a phone call to bring Owen Strand back into action.
