The rumors about a Schitt’s Creek reboot have been circulating for a while now. The CBC sitcom ended in 2020, but is still dearly missed by the audience due to its endearing storyline and eccentric characters.
A few weeks ago, series co-creator and actor Dan Levy revealed that he had an idea about the show’s revival, but he does not want to make it until he is absolutely sure that it will resonate with the fans. Dan’s father, and co-creator and actor Eugene Levy, has now talked about Schitt’s Creek’s potential return.
In an interview, the actor said that he would love to bring back the sitcom, but he is waiting to come up with the right script. Hence, Schitt’s Creek reboot is not in the works as of now, but both Dan and Eugene Levy are willing to revive the series.
Eugene Levy talks about Schitt’s Creek’s potential reboot
Eugene Levy opened up about the revival of Schitt’s Creek in a recent interview with Today. The actor said he loves the show and the cast, and he would certainly want everyone to be back together for a reboot. However, they have yet to come up with an idea that continues the story from where the original series ended. Eugene said:
“Listen, we’ve always said we would love—obviously, we love this group, we love the cast, we love the show, and we would love to get together and do something. It’s just, no idea has come up. Nobody has come up with the idea yet. And whatever it is, it has to start kind of on the level where we left off. Otherwise, there’s no point.”
Schitt’s Creek aired six seasons on CBC between 2015 and 2020 and won multiple Emmys. The show told the story of the Rose family, who lost their riches overnight and had to move to a motel in the titular town. The series won over fans with its stellar performances, humorous yet heartwarming narrative, and earnest portrayal of the LGBTQ community.
Created by Eugene and Dan Levy, the show starred Eugene as Johnny Rose, Catherine O'Hara as Moira Rose, Dan as David Rose, and Annie Murphy as Alexis Rose. The other cast members included Emily Hampshire as Stevie Budd, Noah Reid as Patrick Brewer, Dustin Milligan as Ted Mullens, Chris Elliott as Roland Schitt, and Jennifer Robertson as Jocelyn Schitt.
In July this year, Dan appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen and addressed the possibility of a Schitt’s Creek reboot. He stated he does have a script idea, but wants to make sure that he does not disappoint the fans:
“I think about it all the time. I have a kernel of an idea. I love the show so much, and I don’t want to disappoint the show and I don’t want to disappoint the fans. And I know it’s easy to just take a check and put something out there, but I care about it too much. I’m just waiting for that idea to be the right one. And then maybe, yeah.”
Meanwhile, Eugene has said that he is not aware of the ‘kernel of an idea’ that Dan has. He said during his interview with Today:
“If he said he had a kernel of an idea for a reboot, he didn’t lay it on me. I don’t know what he necessarily comes up with, I don’t have Instagram.”
