Peacemaker showrunner James Gunn was recently interviewed by TV Insider after the release of the season 2 premiere. During the interview, Gunn was asked whether he and people in the DC Studios were planning to change the season 1 finale after the season 2 retcon. For those who don't remember, the season 1 finale saw the appearance of the DCEU Justice League, minus Cyborg and Batman.

However, the season 2 premiere began with a recap, which shows the 11th Street Kids, including Christopher Smith/Peacemaker, encountering the DCU Justice Gang, consisting of Superman, Supergirl, Mr. Terrific, Hawkgirl, and Green Lantern. We even see Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl's faces, played by their respective actors.

Thus, when Gunn was asked if the season 1 scene would be altered to match the new continuity, the showrunner responded that the scene in question would be kept as it is, at least for now.

Peacemaker showrunner James Gunn has an interesting answer:

On August 22, 2025, James Gunn and the rest of the cast members of Peacemaker were interviewed by TV Insider. And the very first question that was asked about is the DCU retcon. The question addressed whether the season 1 finale will be retconned to match the scene from the season 2 recap. To this, James Gunn answered:

“No, unfortunately I’d have to change too many little things throughout Season 1, and it would cost too much money. And I’d rather just give that money to a few more CGI shots of superheroes. But I think that we deal with it. We say, canon is really Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker Season 2. I’d love for people to watch Season 1. Obviously, we’re changing that one thing, but we’re not gonna go back and reshoot all of it for Season 1, at least not at this point.”

Then, bringing up Star Wars creator George Lucas, Gunn went on to joke that he will probably alter the season 1 scene in the future:

“At some point, I’d love to [George] Lucas the s**t out of it, but right now I don’t have the money.”

For those who don't know, before selling Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012, George Lucas, much to the chagrin of Star Wars fans, altered the six films on a regular basis. Thus, some DC fans are celebrating that the season 1 finale will be kept as it is. However, there is a way to explain the retcon.

Ezra Miller's The Flash was banished to a misguided DC timeline:

2020 to 2023 was a rough time for the DC brand, as this period was filled with one controversy after another. However, the worst scandal that rocked DC was Ezra Miller's allegations between 2020 to 2022, when The Flash finally made it to the cinema halls and failed to impress everyone. The last act of the movie revealed that Miller's Flash was in the same universe as 1997's reviled movie Batman & Robin.

This move signified that DC was no longer associated with Miller in any capacity. Therefore, considering The Flash is banished to a different timeline, the Justice Gang's presence can be chalked up to time travel.
