Blade Runner 2099 is the highly anticipated sequel series to the Blade Runner film franchise. Starring Michelle Yeoh in the lead, the project has been billed as a limited series that will arrive on Prime Video.

It was recently revealed that the show will premiere in 2026, four years after it officially went into development. While the plot details have been kept under wraps, Michelle Yeoh has now teased what to expect from Blade Runner 2099.

In a recent interview with Collider, Yeoh revealed that the series will be loved by the fans as it continues the franchise’s lore, featuring several references from the original movies. She said:

“If you love the Blade Runner movies, you’re going to just adore this. They’ve created a world that even a hardcore Blade Runner fan would go, ‘Yeah, I get it.’ That’s all I’m going to tell you for the moment.”

Michelle Yeoh will star alongside Hunter Schafer in Blade Runner 2099. Yeoh plays a Replicant named Olwen who is facing the end of her life, while Schafer portrays a character named Cora.

Expressing her excitement about the program, the actress said:

“I can just tell you that I was so happy making the Blade Runner series with Hunter Schafer and the rest of my crew and team.”

Prime Video has already confirmed that the sci-fi miniseries will debut in 2026. However, the exact release date remains to be announced. During the conversation, Yeoh stated that even she is unaware of the premiere date:

“We’re waiting with bated breath, like, 'Come on, give us a clue!' I think they want to get it absolutely right before, and also plan the marketing. You know how important that is, so that we all get to really jump on the boat and everyone be on the same page and ready to sail out to meet the rest of the world with the series.”

The first Blade Runner film came out in 1982, starring Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard. In 2017, the sequel to the film, titled Blade Runner 2049, was released. Ford reprised his role in the second part and was joined by Ryan Gosling as K.

In 2022, Blade Runner 2099 was officially announced, with Silka Luisa serving as the creator and executive producer. The original film's director, Ridley Scott, also serves as an executive producer on the series, along with Andrew Kosove, David W. Zucker, Michael Green, Broderick Johnson, Ben Roberts, Cynthia Yorkin, Clayton Krueger, Isa Dick Hackett, Frank Giustra, and Tom Spezialy.

Apart from Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer, the show stars Lewis Gribben, Maurizio Lombardi, Dimitri Abold, Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, and Tom Burke. The guest stars include Sheila Atim, Johnny Harris, Matthew Needham, and Amy Lennox.
