Beyond the Gates' Fans react to Jacob hearing his father may be a dirty cop

On Beyond the Gates, Jacob is a good cop, and he looks up to his father, Elon, the Chief of Police, as a role model and a guiding compass of integrity. But all of that will soon be trashed.

Jacob (Jibre Hordges) received a phone call from a friend, one that would set him on a course that would forever alter his life and the way he looks at the one man who showed him what it was to be a cop and the honor of wearing the badge and answering the call. Smitty (Mike Manning) is doing a “fluff piece” on a local legend, a soon-to-be-retired Detective (Marcel Malone) who has been seemingly living outside of his means. New house in the Caribbean and a yacht most would be jealous of, all on a detective's salary. Following the money, it soon became apparent there were cash payments that were deposited, one of five thousand and one for half a million dollars. When Smitty came to Jacob about having the possibility of a dirty cop on the force, it led to Jacob's father, Elon (Malachi Malik), and Jacob thinks there must be another reason that his dad said to leave it alone, if not, then Elon is complicit.

Fans of Beyond the Gates went to the Soap Central Message boards to discuss how this is going to affect Jacob going forward and what this will mean for his relationship with his father, who should be taken down with the rest of the crooks.

Jacob is in for a HUGE disappointment

“Jacob describes his whole life looking up to Elon, his father, and how Elon always told him to do everything by the book etc. Now Smitty is undercovering the truth and Jacob is maybe starting to doubt his father a bit? I can't imagine how bad that is going to hurt. I think we can guess that $500,000 payoff two years ago that is in Marcel's account is from the Duprees to cover up Martin's crime. And Elon got the same. Wow.” – board user CashierJudy

CashierJudy replied with, “For sure patrick4days I thought Friday's episode was the best in a long time. We finally got movement on the Martin story and are starting to see everything falling into place. In the previews, I was a bit surprised to see Joey there though. Hmmm.

Zenmaster5 added, “I am going to feel so bad for poor Jacob when he finds out who his dad really is....Jacob has so much respect and admiration for his father that he cannot fathom him being a dirty cop on the take! I felt sorry for Jacob during his and Smitty's scene...he looked so sad at the thought that his dad could be in on this. I can only imagine how Elon will feel once his son finds out who he really is....he may want to make Smitty pay!”

We need the answers to more questions. How DID the Duprees get their money? It can’t all have been from Anita's (Tamara Tunie) singing, nor Vernon (Cifton Davis) being a Senator. Will Smitty yell loud enough that he can’t be touched and the story is already out or will the forces at play get to him before that? Stay tuned soap fans, this arc has more twists and I’m certain we will be floors by more revelations as yet uncovered. But for now, our hearts go out to Jacob when he finds out the dark family secret his dad carries.
