On Beyond the Gates, Martin's nightmare and hallucinations are starting to materialize to us, the viewers at home, and we are steadily building a picture of what happened that night.

Who is connected to the nightmare in Beyond the Gates

This list is growing like a weed. Firstly, we know that Congressman Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon) is front and center, and so is Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durett), known as the Duprees' fixer back then (the incident in question happened two years ago) and has made repeated remarks to Martin that things dont go well when he can’t control his impulses. However, my fave clue was at Bill and Hayley's (Marquita Goings) wedding when he told Martin they could still be helpful to one another, and when Martin didn't understand, Bill said, “Am I coming on too strong? I wouldn't want to be accused of overkill.” So, the current theory is that Martin beat someone badly, but not murder.

So, who was there that night? There was a victim, and Vernon alludes to someone taking the settlement money and leaving the country. He would know if they had returned (Which I think is clear at this point that they have). The victim could be Kenny (Jason Vendryes), the busboy from the Country Club. Still, he lacks any sign that he was beaten to a pulp, after all the nightmare sequence shows a tire iron being used as the weapon, and they are not subtle pieces of kit. Crooked cop Marcel Malone (Darryl W. Handy) was at the scene and can be heard saying, “Get him out of here.” This is likely directed at Martin, as when more cops show up, the last thing the family wants is Martin connected with the crime. So, Marcel and Bill made the messy situation disappear. Was a similar threat given to the victim, like Bill had given to Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant), to get her to leave town?

Smitty digs deeper

Martin's husband, Smitty (Mike Manning), is an investigative reporter with a habit of not taking no for an answer, and his fluff piece on the soon-to-be-retired police legend Det. Malone started unearthing all sorts of connections to crime and Casino boss Joey Armstrong. Is it merely a coincidence that a suspect in a murder was given an alibi by confessing to a crime he didn't commit at an auto parts store? Joey paid the guy off for taking the rap, and Joey paid off Malone for keeping it quiet. Marcel has been dirty for a while, as evidenced by the kind of fancy yacht he bought and the exclusive membership to a yacht club. What will Smitty uncover next, and will he like what he finds?

So was Martin in the wrong place at the wrong time, or was he there by design? We will have to wait a little longer to find out the true picture, but what is known is that the Dupree family has spent a lot of time and money making sure that Martin's part in whatever went down stays buried like all the other skeletons in their closets. Should this see the light of day, and with Smitty on the case, how could it not?, The truth is going to rock FGairmont Crest and set the scene for an epic couple of episodes on what has to be the finest piece of daytime TV ever. Beyond the Gates never fails to deliver.
