Eric refused to divorce Quinn. Though he tried to mediate between Brooke and Quinn, the women privately declared war upon each other. Wyatt conveyed to Sally that he wanted to try again with Flo. The incensed Sally ordered him to take time to get his head on straight because she wouldn't let him leave her again for Flo. This week had preemptions due to the impeachment trial of Donald Trump.

What happened the week of January 20, 2020: The events of the previous year's Mother's Day were finally revealed

The people of Salem remembered the events of Mother's Day 2019. Sarah went into labor. Summer told Maggie that she was dying of cirrhosis, and she blamed Maggie. A despondent Maggie got drunk and ran Adrienne and Sarah off the road on their way to the hospital. Will believed that he was the cause of the accident. Victor and Xander overheard Will's confession to J.J., and they covered up that Maggie was to blame. Adrienne died of her injuries. Xander helped Sarah give birth. Kristen gave birth. In the NICU, Sarah's baby died due to injuries from the car accident, and Victor told Xander to switch the babies to protect Maggie. An emotional Kristen attacked Haley in the stairwell because she blamed Haley for her daughter's death, and she accidentally pushed Haley down the stairs to her death. Will confessed to Sonny, Justin, and the police that he was to blame for Adrienne's death. In the current day, Ciara told Will the truth about the crash.

Nikolas reunited with Spencer, but things did not go as Nikolas had anticipated. Spencer was deeply hurt that his father had chosen to take down Valentin rather than reveal that Nikolas was alive. Ava tried to act as peacemaker, but Spencer was too angry to forgive his father. Nina set her terms for working with Sasha. Charlotte took a pair of scissors and destroyed a Crimson cover photo of Sasha. Laura told Jax her plans for the waterfront district. Carly agreed to take Gladys to Sonny's coffee warehouse for a tour. Michael invited Nelle to stay at the Quartermaine mansion to keep her away from Wiley. Jordan gave Marcus Taggart a warm welcome then shared her concerns about the death of their friend, Bob Massicott. Marcus assured Jordan that he would help her look into the suspicious death. This week had preemptions due to the impeachment trial of Donald Trump.

Abby and Chance's date led to a nightcap in his hotel room, but Phyllis interrupted their evening by pulling the fire alarm. Chance finally agreed to a dinner date with Phyllis. Jill warned Jack that Theo was trouble. Tensions escalated between Kyle and Theo at the party, resulting in Kyle punching Theo. Kyle and Lola fought about Theo, and Kyle walked out. Kyle sought out Lola before he left on a business trip, but things remained cool between them. Jack separately lectured Kyle and Theo about respecting one another. Phyllis urged Summer to never settle for second best. Tessa made a surprise visit home to see Mariah for a few hours, but Mariah opted not to tell her about Sharon's cancer diagnosis. Nikki made plans to throw a bash for Newman Enterprises' 50th anniversary. Amanda sensed that there was more between Nate and Elena than friendship. Billy appealed to Victoria to give him the same level of acceptance that she'd granted her father. Victoria demanded that Billy get help if he wanted to save their relationship. Chance informed Adam that "she" was missing, but Adam insisted that there was nothing to worry about because she'd been cashing his monthly payments. Fen passed on the chance to go on tour again and instead decided to move to Nashville. Adam learned that Chloe had saved his life, and they formed a tentative truce.
