Michael E Knight: Can't do AMC reboot right now

Three-time Emmy winner Michael E Knight will not be a part of All My Children's initial relaunch. In a newly published interview, the actor reveals that the timing isn't quite right -- but that he could return in the near future.

The Martin family will be front and center when All My Children returns this spring, but the show's relaunch will have to start without fan favorite Michael E Knight (Tad Martin). The actor isn't ruling out a return at some point, but, as they say, timing is everything.

"I'm blessed, personally, that the Martins are going to be represented. With me, personally, it was simply an issue of timing, period," Knight told Soap Opera Digest in an exclusive interview. "I consider [Executive Producer] Ginger Smith to be, actually, one of my oldest and dearest friends, in that industry and in life. And I had asked her for patience with me because as I like to put it, I didn't say no, I just said, 'I can't do it right now.'"

As previously reported, Jill Larson (Opal Cortlandt) has already signed on for the relaunch of All My Children, and Cady McClain (Dixie Martin) has indicated that she is "confident" that she'll be a part of the show's Internet incarnation.

There are also unconfirmed reports that Ray MacDonnell (Joe Martin) may also take part in All My Children's return.

Knight also took time to thank fans for their enduring support and offered some hopeful words that they might soon seen him again in his iconic, Emmy-winning role.

"I love the fact that the interest is there and I firmly believe Tad is going to be walking through Pine Valley in short order at some point," Knight added.

Knight debuted on All My Children in 1982. Though he made a couple of short-term exits from the show, the actor was a prominent fixture on the show through its network television finale in September 2011.

Knight earned three Daytime Emmys during his time on All My Children. In 1986 and 1987, he picked up back-to-back wins in the Outstanding Younger Leading Man (now Outstanding Younger Actor) category. In 2001, Knight was named Outstanding Supporting Actor.
