Ray was born and raised in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and went to nearby Amherst College. He attended the Royal Academy in London as a Fulbright scholar.
He appeared as the popular character Philip Capice on The Edge of Night for nearly eight years. Ray's other television credits include Studio One and Armstrong Circle Theatre.
