The One Piece manga is currently at its most exciting stage, deep into the Elbaph Arc, where the main cast is struggling against the God’s Knights and the World Government’s ruler, Imu. While Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji are yet to enter the fight, the rest of the residents in the Sun World have suffered a brutal defeat.

In particular, Scopper Gaban, the Left Hand of the Pirate King, sustained injuries severe enough to make many fear for his life. Thankfully, One Piece chapter 1151 reveals that Scopper Gaban did not die, having been saved from a potentially fatal fall into the Underworld by Chopper.

In the recent chapters of One Piece, the God’s Knights implemented their evil plan of controlling the giants of Elbaph by taking their children hostage. Since Gaban’s son, Colon, was also captured by Gunko, he hurried over to save him, cutting through Sommers on the way.

Unfortunately, after reaching the antagonist, Gunko realized that Colon was his son and threatened to kill him if Gaban didn’t stand down. Though Gaban believed he was powerful enough to stop Gunko, a vision of the future showed him Colon’s death. As a result, he yielded and was pierced by the God’s Knights' arrow powers.

The last time fans saw the Mountain-Eater, he was falling into the Underworld, apologizing to both Elbaph and his son. This led many to fear that Gaban may have perished, especially since it was a deadly descent into the realm of the dead.

However, One Piece gave insight into how the legendary figure may be saved, as Chopper was chasing after him to discover the secrets of how to defeat an immortal. Without thinking, the Straw Hat jumped behind Gaban, resolved to protect him.

Chopper’s heroics in One Piece chapter 1151 save Scopper Gaban

One Piece chapter 1151 finally reveals what happens to Gaban, and much to everyone’s relief, he hasn’t died. A flashback scene showed how Chopper had impulsively decided to chase after Gaban, determined to save him. To break up their fall into the Underworld, Chopper used Guard Point.

This was sensed by Luffy, Loki, and the rest of the cast who were nearby. Soon after, it was displayed that Chopper had successfully rescued Gaban, though his injuries remained just as grave. The giant doctor Gerd was called to treat Gaban, while Luffy discovered that “Ya-san” was a former member of Gol D. Roger’s crew.

As it was being explained how the old man was likely the third strongest member of the Roger Pirates, Gaban himself spoke up, expressing that he was the second strongest. Hence, though he was beaten both physically and mentally, Gaban retained his sense of humor.

He is currently being treated by both Chopper and Gerd, and will most probably make a full recovery, though he may not be able to return to battle immediately. When the cast was discussing Gaban’s identity, Chopper intervened and told them of the situation above, where the giants’ children were taken hostage and monsters were running amok.

Immediately, everyone in the Underworld felt Imu’s terrifying Haki, though Gaban was the only one who seemed to recognize who it belonged to. This was enough to move Luffy, Hajrudin, and Loki into action, as they decided to return to the Sun World and stop Imu’s schemes.
