NBC exec 'happy' with Days of our Lives

As Days of our Lives prepares to "reboot" itself in September, the soap has received words of praise from an NBC executive, who says that the network is "happy" with the show's performance.

While the network has yet to announce any sort of extension to Days of our Lives' contract, NBC has given some indication that DAYS fans won't have to worry about cancellation any time soon.

At the Television Critics Association panel, held on Monday, Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, offered praise for NBC's lone remaining soap opera.

"Talk about aging shows. My hat is off to them as they creatively keep these things going," Greenblatt offered. "It is the only soap that we have. I think it does relatively well for us. At the moment, we are happy with its performance [and] I think it will be on for a while."

Greenblatt also noted that DAYS could see its viewership increase once All My Children ends its run on ABC in September. In many markets, the two soaps air at the same time.

In November 2010, NBC announced that it had made the decision to renew Days of our Lives through at least September 2013. Just three years earlier, then-NBC Universal Television president Jeff Zucker stated that Days of Our Lives was "unlikely to continue [on NBC] past 2009."
