Florence Pugh's Yelena may be returning to the MCU sooner than expected, as she might appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The upcoming Tom Holland-starrer has been one of the most anticipated projects for Marvel fans since they will meet the 29-year-old actor almost five years after his previous appearance in an MCU movie.
The last time fans saw Holland was during a multiversal reunion with Peter Parkers from other universes, played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. At the time, he was recovering from Tony Stark's loss, and after No Way Home (2021), he will be trying to survive without his Aunt May. He will have a greater responsibility on his hands than ever before.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will also see Zendaya and Jacob Batalon reprising their roles from the previous films. Michael Mando will join as Scorpion, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) and Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear) will round out the cast, but the latest rumor suggests an exciting addition to the mix.
X (formerly Twitter) user Daniel Richtman (DanielRPK) claims that Florence Pugh will also be in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day cast. Neither Marvel Studios nor Sony Pictures has officially backed this report as of yet. However, the rumor might be enough to get Yelena fans excited to see her again in another Marvel project before Avengers: Doomsday.
What else do we know about Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the first MCU feature film about the web-slinger not to be helmed by Jon Watts. Instead, Destin Daniel Cretton takes over the reins for this franchise installment. Cretton rose to fame through his work on drama films like Short Term 12 (2013) and Just Mercy (2019) before helming the 2021 movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Cretton will be working with a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who have written all the MCU movies centered around Tom Holland's Spider-Man. In 2018, they also co-wrote Ant-Man and the Wasp. So, they seem to have plenty of experience in the Marvel ecosystem to bring another entertaining affair that will tick all the boxes for the MCU fans.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks the second project in the MCU's Phase Six, which commenced with the recently released The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Tom Holland was recently present in Glasgow, Scotland, to shoot a chapter of his wall-slinging adventure saga. The filming will eventually take place in Pinewood Studios in England.
It's the first project to depart from shooting in the US, especially in Atlanta and New York, which were central to the filming process of Spider-Man's earlier adventures. Even the globe-trotting tale in Spider-Man: Far From Home returned to the Big Apple, unlike the new movie, where NYC is being recreated in the UK.
As the shooting progresses further, Florence Pugh's potential inclusion in the cast, even through a cameo, must have piqued the interest of the MCU fans, who were impressed with her performance in Thunderbolts*. Yet, it's important to note that her inclusion in the movie has not been confirmed by any official source yet.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is slated to be theatrically released in the United States on July 31, 2026.
