Nick Reiner is 32 years old, having been born in 1993. He is the second child of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. His other two siblings are his older brother, Jake Reiner, and his younger sister, Romy Reiner. Nick Reiner has now come up in connection with the homicide of his father, Rob Reiner, and his mother, Michele Singer Reiner.

According to a report by People, Nick Reiner is being questioned by the LAPD in the apparent case of Rob Reiner's homicide, with sources telling the publication that they suspect Reiner is behind the death of his parents. However, there has been no confirmation regarding such suspicion from LAPD or other involved authorities as of the writing of this article.

Rob Reiner was found by Romy Reiner, according to the sources speaking to People. After authorities were alerted, the Los Angeles Fire Department was called in to provide medical aid, but the couple was already dead upon the arrival of the department's personnel.

Nick Reiner has a long history of substance abuse. He struggled with addiction from an early age and was homeless during his teenage years. Reiner left rehab the last time when he was 19.

The writer, who is best known for working on the 2015 film Being Charlie, which is based on his own history of addiction and homelessness, elaborated on that time of his life back in 2016 in an interview with People:

"It’s not my life. I went to a lot of these places, so I had a lot of these stories. I was homeless in Maine. I was homeless in New Jersey. I was homeless in Texas. I spent nights on the street. I spent weeks on the street. It was not fun. If I wanted to do it my way and not go to the programs they were suggesting, then I had to be homeless."

Reiner continued:

"That made me who I am now, having to deal with that stuff. I met crazy great people there, so out of my element. Now, I’ve been home for a really long time, and I’ve sort of gotten acclimated back to being in L.A. and being around my family. But there was a lot of dark years there. When I was out there, I could’ve died. It’s all luck. You roll the dice and you hope you make it"

Nick Reiner did not bond with his father as a kid

While the story of his homelessness and struggles with substance abuse paints a picture in itself, Nick Reiner also had previously elaborated on how he did not bond with his father. In another interview with BUILD Series in 2016, Nick Reiner stated:

"It really clicked for me because we didn’t bond a lot as a kid. He really liked baseball, I liked basketball, and he could watch that with my brother — baseball — but I just, when I saw him do that, it was something that I’m interested in, I was like, ‘Wow, he really knows a lot’ and it made me feel closer to him."

His father deferred to him during the interview regarding his experiences, stating that while he felt that they did share the experience, he relied on him to provide the honesty and emotional depth to the film.

Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner's deaths were announced by their surviving family in a press statement on December 14, 2025. Rob Reiner is survived by his children from his marriage to Michele.

He is also survived by Tracy Reiner, his adopted daughter with his first wife, Penny Marshall. Marshall and Rob divorced in 1981. Rob Reiner was 78 years old at the time of his death.
