My Oxford Year: Release date news, cast, streaming details and more about the upcoming rom-com starring Sofia Carson

Sofia Carson will appear in the Netflix film My Oxford Year, where she will be seen romancing Corey Mylchreest. Other than them, Dougray Scott, Catherine McCormack, Harry Trevaldwyn, and more are in the film. The movie is set for release in August 2025.

This is a film adaptation of Julia Whelan's debut novel of the same name, and Melissa Osborne has written the screenplay alongside Allison Burnett. Whelan herself is an actor and has appeared in several television series like Once and Again (1999–2002), The Closer (2012), and more.

Temple Hill Entertainment is producing the film. Before this, it has produced movies like Dear John (2010), The Fault in Our Stars (2014), Paper Towns (2015), and more. Most recently, it produced Clown in a Cornfield, which is about some clowns who are not very friendly.


When is My Oxford Year releasing?

The film is releasing on August 1, 2025. It will be clashing with films including She Rides Shotgun, The Bad Guys 2, and The Naked Gun on the same day. Other films coming in the month include Weapons, Nobody 2, Americana, and more.

Sofia Carson is leading the film as Anna De La Vega. She is an actress and a singer who has appeared in television films before, most popularly in Descendants, where she played the daughter of the Evil Queen. Her other credits include Purple Hearts (2022), Carry-On (2024), The Life List (2025), and more.

Opposite her is Corey Mylchreest as Jamie Davenport, who is her love interest and is going through some trouble in his life. The actor is known for his role as King George III in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Other than that, he has also appeared in The Sandman (2022), Fantastic Friends (2022), and more.

BAFTA winner Dougray Scott is in My Oxford Year too; he is playing Jamie's father. He appears briefly in the movie's trailer, hugging his son. He was recently seen playing an antagonist in another Netflix movie called Exterritorial (2025). Additionally, he has appeared in films like Mission: Impossible 2 (2000), Ripley's Game (2002), and more.
